iPod Touch is running whatever the latest official release is. 4.1?
yes something like that :p dont own one :(

I refuse to update the iPad since Apple saw fit to screw up how the screen lock switch works.
as was i! until i updated. i was as sceptical as you to upgrade - but you know what? its actually pretty usable! to "lock" the mode now you double tap home, move multitasking meter to the left (slide right) then click the "lock/unlock" button. wala. its kind of a bit easier in a way.

Three steps instead of a single flick of a switch = dealbreaker. It's all about "if it ain't broke".

its funny you mention that. Because in SOME instances its actually much easier and quicker. granted those scenarios are more limited to lying on your side in bed and only have 1 hand free, but I spend a lot of me in bed!

I agree with the poster above - orientation lock should never have been implemented in the first place, but now I really like it :D

Btw screen lock = orientation lock.

That's fine. But they DID implement it. And I am not alone in the thought that they should have just left it well alone, OR make it a user-selectable choice as to the behavior of that switch.

I have never owned nor will I ever own an iPhone. Therefore, I only know of one way for the iPad - the way it came into this world. It'd be like the 2011 MacBook Pro being released without a Control key. It's not cricket.

a fellow aussie? :) I am basically of exactly the same view man... Never had an iphone and don't really want one, I only have my Ipad (i adore it).

I honestly hated the idea of the mute button change, I ranted for days on here! But, having now used it for a week or so, I can honestly say that it isn't as bad as it sounds! Its usable for me in any case because I normally leave the lock on for periods of time - but that's just me of course ;)

No, I'm fully American, unfortunately.

If/when Apple provides a user-selectable option I'll consider upgrading. Then I can try it with the mute and if I don't like it, go back to the rotation lock. As it is I'd be stuck one given way. Besides, nothing else on the newer OS appeals to me in the slightest.

in that case, i applaude you for knowing that phrase ;)

no complaints from your view there. ive been using it for a week and multitasking is quite impressive in a way - but the apps cant take advantage of it! my IM clients time out after 10 minutes still and there is certainly reduced battery life. if i am playing a game that uses a fair amount of resources and switch to an IM client, it will not halt computations but instead it will force it to stop - when i switch back to the game it reloads from the introduction splash screen and i have to start again! how is that multitasking!?

With no other apps open, I opened the link on the first page on my iPhone 4 running 4.1 jailbroken. I had 328MB free before I opened it, and 205MB when it was done, but it did NOT open every image. It stopped on the one with the 4 people frame left walking to the left.

I'm curious as to why the iPhone didn't open all of them considering it had over 200MB RAM free, which is a ton more than the iPad has free, EVER.
