With that said, I'm glad I have a 256GB SP3, some people were espousing a smaller model because you can store all your data on the OneDrive and then pull down what you need. If this ability is removed they'll be having issues.

Somewhat counter-intuitively, I've read somewhere that placeholders actually create a problem with devices with low storage. If you have a huge amount of content in OneDrive, but a device with little storage (e.g 16-32GB tablet), the placeholders alone could take up your entire local storage and effectively cripple the device. A solution to this is to return to basic selective sync.

I can't answer to the validity of that (I'm not disagreeing, I just had not heard that before). One thing that I have seen though is people opting for smaller SurfacePros for the very reason that OneDrive can hold your data and its not needed to be stored locally. I had someone on a different board recommend to me a lower end unit for this very reason.

Or just simple toggle to turn placeholders off. I know this adds a level of complexity to the service, but at the same time do we need to dumb everything down for everyone?

As an Office365 user, I'm liking the amount of space they give us (unlimited). Not sure I can transition my workflow to OneDrive yet, though. Microsoft definitely has to earn that trust (based on some past bad decisions).

I do, however, wish they would update their awful off-colored icon for OS X.
