I have a wifi printer that doesn't support AirPrint so I use an app called printer pro. It works very well!

Why is everybody thinking that the OP is making a grand statement about their iPad replacing ALL MacBooks? It seems pretty clear they're talking about only their personal situation.

The longer you use it the more deal breakers will expose themselves.

...or the longer you use it the more you'll find that you can live without or adopt to new methods.

This. I don’t discount the experience of people who need other things the iPad Pro won’t do. For them, it’s not a replacement. In turn, please don’t discount the experiences of those of us who don’t need the iPad Pro to do any of those things and are thrilled with the iPad Pro as a replacement for a laptop in our lives.

Duplex is possible. I use it at home.
If I may ask, and being unfamiliar with the term, just exactly what is “Duplex” and how is it used with the IPad Ro?

If you want to download a lot of media (music, Netflix, Movies), for offline watching, yes you better exchange it for the larger 256. To me this is very important, because i like to have a sizable collection of movies, and tv series, to entertain myself in case i get stranded in a place without wifi.
Hope my advice helped.
Hi, thank you for responding to my post. To all who replied, again, thank you. Update: I went back to Verizon Wireless where I purchased my IPad Prob(10.5-inch) 64GB and exchanged it for the 256GB. I feel much better having done so, realizing that I should be pretty much set now for most anything I want to do. I am so excited and cannot wait for Christmas to arrive so that I can open it and begin my process of discovery. ( Am old school in that I do not open things like this that are intended as Christmas presents, compliments of my wife, until Christmas..Lol) In upgrading it cost me an additional $158.00, but again, feel it will be well worth the money.

I have now been a week without my MBP as it's in for repair and have been using my 10.5 Pro. As much as I enjoy not having to worry about charging the battery from when I get home from work until I sleep, I miss the Macbook.

When lying or sitting on the couch, the Macbook just rests on my stomach and can lazily touch type and move the cursor without thinking - it's second nature. On the iPad, I need to point and tap at everything and touch typing isn't possible. Even if I get a small third party keyboard, the activity won't be as effortless. I also miss the 15 inch screen.

The bottom line is that I love the iPad and it fits in my life because of it's instantaneous nature and ease of moving around.

However, the Macbook is more comfortable and easier to use for an extended period(1h+)

Check with your IT department. Your printer might have an email address in which case you can print by sending an email with the document attached.

I can relate to this. Back in late 2015 I purchased the first gen 12.9 iPad Pro to replace my MacBook Pro 13. I kept the MacBook Pro for about 6 months. For the first 2-3 months, I kept finding myself going back to the MacBook Pro as I was much more comfortable using the touchpad than the touch screen, especially when working at my desk. Finally I decided to force myself to use the iPad Pro for one month without touching the MacBook. At the end of that month, I had become so used to the touch screen that when I took back out my MacBook I kept reaching to touch the screen as a habit. At that point I found myself wanting to use the iPad Pro and the MacBook sat unused for the next 3 months until I finally sold it.

Moral of the story: old habits are hard to break, and sometimes what is "most comfortable" is what we are most used to. That doesn't mean we cannot become used to something different. It just may take some time. We are creatures of habit.

Very good points. Old habits are very bad to break. I am so used to using MS Office at work that I struggle to use or wanting to adapt to Pages and Numbers on my Mac at home.

I will get my MacBook back tomorrow. Let’s see how I feel about it.

Perhaps, but in my case more comfortable also includes using a mouse to interact with the screen for some tasks. I love my iPad, but its not a good replacement of my laptop. It supplements it and what it really shines in that arena. I know many people have been successful in using the iPad in place of the laptop but I don't think speaking universally its there for everyone too for a variety of reasons, and I don't think it ever will.

If I never saw a laptop again in my life, I couldn’t be happier. Probably a career of having Windows laptops forced on me by my employer. Either a desktop or tablet (hopefully iPad) is how I work best. The hybrid concept of this clamshell that pretends to be portable while trying to emulate an office computer is (to me) absurd. Unergonomic, unnatural, and uncomfortable in both attempts.

If I didn't have to use Excel so much maybe it would be different but it's indescribable how tedious lots of Excel work is on iPad.

Man I wish we could get that mouse support through a buried pro/weird user preference somewhere.

I used my iPad as my primary computer while I was getting my MBA and the same thing happened. As time went on, I got more & more comfortable with it. Pretty soon, I was more comfortable using the iPad than the MacBook.

Yesterday I collected my 15’ rMBP and after using the 10.5 iPad exclusively for over a week, to my surprise I am not elated to have it back.

It now feels much heavier than the iPad. Even having to open the lid and wake it up feels like a step backwards. However beside editing family photos I no longer do anything task intensive at home. Most computing activity is watching videos, forums, browsing, Instagram and reading news.

What will I do going forward? Probably use the iPad more as I have become quicker at using it.

We I been playing with my pro (10.5) last few days at work to see if it can replace my 2012 MacBook Air.

It almost can.

most work stuff is done in google docs and that all works fine in the pro, quite well actually.
bluetooth keyboard takes are of typing...

The only thing is....
printing.

We have an old ethernet printer, unlike osx I cannot search and add it.
I read of an app in a local machine to fool the iPad to thinking it an AirPrint printer.

that is not an option in my location sadly.
Even if it was air print does not handle duplex does it?

On plus side last few days has shown me just what a power house of a tablet the pro is!
It just took everything I threw at it and did it, bar the printer of course.

I think the ipad pro is the most exciting thing happening at apple these days. It has the most value per buck, and i think we will see a huge development on this front the coming years. Personally, after i bought the 1st gen ipad pro 13 inch, i see myself using the macs less frequently. We just need an improvement to text input and editing in my opinion, like an external bt keyboard with integrated trackpad, and support for printing and scanning. To me this is clearly the future of personal computing.

WiFi printing work on the iPad. Have you ever used the document scanner? It very good.

I don´t think any cam scanner can compete with a direct connection with my canon scanner like my mbp. I will look into the printing thing, but the fact is, if i want to work with documents, nothing beats my 15 inch macbook pro anno 2015.

Could you just buy a WiFi based inkjet that supports Apple Print? I can print to my printer and it sees that it is double sides as well. I think it is an Epson. It’s not even new either. It’s at least two or three years old.

I have a epson SX445w at home and print/scan over wifi not issues.

But at work we have a very large HP laster unit which is network only.
Is not airprint as ethernet.

Due to cost of the HP and all the toner we have boss will not buy an inkjet for the office.
I can understand this from cost point of view as only I would use it.

All HP LaserJets over the past several years are Air Print compatible. I have a LaserJet MFP-1536 at the office that prints using Air Print. It is an Ethernet-only printer. My iPad sees four printers on our small network it can print directly to using Air Print. Unless your office printer is ancient, it should work.

There’s a new Google app called PhotoScan - pretty awesome!

office printer is very old.

even our server cannot find it on network!

my Mac can so can other windows 7 and linux machines.
until boss upgrades it I'll still with my Mac
