OpenCore Legacy Patcher update

I had my iMac 17,1 3,3Ghz, 24GBn installed with Sonoma 14.5 by a refurbish company, but he doesn't respond anymore.
I also have SIerra as a second boot option because of some legacy apps.
For a while now, I'm getting update notifications of OCLP.
Is it safe to just update, or should I keep ignoring upon each launch?

It is “safe” but you need to know how to get yourself out of trouble. Be sure to back up your data before attempting any.

If you aren’t comfortable after reading the documentation, there is no harm in simply dismissing the update dialogs.

Is it the whole disk (including my second Sierra environment) I need to backup,
or would a typical time machine backup of both be sufficient?

Always back up your data, but the update is a good idea. I am using OpenCore on three old MacBooks from 8 to 12 years old. These OpenCore updates help keep your system ready to work with security updates and patches as they are released by Apple. I ALWAYS update when available. If it asks to update boot drive afterwards, do that too and reboot when asked.

If you want to keep a smooth running machine, there isn't much interaction you have to do when using this, but it would be a good idea to spend some time reading about OpenCore Legacy and you'll have some confidence about your system integrity going forward.
