never mind repairing it..

it was buying it that was the first mistake.

The most pointless version of the most pointless machine ever made.!

I find a small rotary (3" disk) pizza cutter works better than the putty knife for opening the Mac Mini case without damage.

I agree. I've opened mini's several times now with both Pizza cutters and Putty knives and the Pizza cutter was far the easier of the two.

I can't speak for the Core Solo Mini, but I would definitely disagree with the part about "the most pointless machine ever made." Honestly, if I wasn't able to get the previous gen Mini for $499 refurbished, I would've had to settle for a Windows solution. In my opinion, the Mini was (maybe not quite as much any more) a perfect "starter system;" you got the full OS X experience for a relatively inexpensive price. No, I can't do the tasks of a Mac Pro, but I wasn't expecting that.

I love my Mac mini. It runs 24/7 silently playing the role of file server, iTunes server, AirVideo server, and, occasionally, MAME box and torrent box.

Much of this used to be done by PowerMac MDD. That thing sounded like a jet engine and used more power. As much as I loved the MDD, I was extremely happy when it was replaced by the Mac mini.

Hardly pointless at all.

but at least on the MDD you are aware when it is working , you can hear it with closed doors fom your kitchen , on the mini you have to rely on that small led light at the front which is irritating, i always have to feel at the back of my G4 mini if its really running, as i have most times the screen turned of when ripping a dvd on the harddrive

I know what you mean. It's such an inconvenience to have a nearly silent computer;)

but back to the issue of opening a mini , its not rocket science , and if you are careful its possible without leaving any signs on the case that it was opened

and i dont use a putty knife i use a joint knife , basically the same , but wider so you get all laches at once and its thinner and more flexible
