I have 2 iphones one of them is on Orange and the other on o2, I switched my upgrade to Orange as o2 had crap 3G coverage and the difference in the two were night and day...Orange was far superior..now before it all kicks off I know it depends on numerous factors, postcode, masts / coverage ect so who do I pick for my Ipad:confused:

O2 probably shades it in terms of price / tariff but I am still of the opinion Orange are a far better 3G provider...

You could turn this into a poll, maybe? Let us pick from the three. Myself, I'll be going with O2 as I have good coverage, I have never had a problem with them, and I hear O2 are the only ones you can use the set-up-on-ipad-thing like AT&T in the USA.

Good idea mate...I did choose a O2 sim based on the easy instant set up much like the iphone as apparently with the others you need to phone to enable the sim ect

I'm getting an orange SIM with my iPad order and I'm gonna get an o2 one from the store when they are out. The daily plan is much better from o2 and the weekly deal from orange is nice too. So I figure get both, best if both worlds.
 
None of the tariffs being offered are particularly compelling.

Orange is the best of a bad bunch for heavy users, O2 for those wanting to go PAYG (not least because of the Openzone access, which Orange restricts to its monthly tariffs). Forget Vodafone - they aren't even trying.

It's worth remembering that O2 is the only UK operator to have implemented Apple's proprietary platform for managing data tariffs on the iPad itself, AT&T-style. Orange and Vodafone require you to call them up to register and enable service.

I'm hoping Three will join the party to shake things up - it has been reported that there are some Three micro-SIMs out there in the wild, so it's only a matter of time.
 
I ordered an O2 SIM with my iPad since it was less than £1, but I might just scrap the idea of being able to activate and deactivate from my device and get a £10 p/m unlimited SIM instead as its STILL cheaper than the one that O2 officially offers with the device and cut it down to size.

A word of caution. O2 have got wise to the use of such sims in the 'wrong' device and will cut you off.

It happened to me recently when I used an iPhone PAYG Sim with unlimited internet in a Mi-Fi.

hmm thanks for the advice. i suppose its good that i ordered the O2 official sim just in case and can use that instead then : )
 
Has anyone missed the Orange App?

I bought my ipad with an O2 Sim.

Although, just ordered an Orange sim, to take advantage of their £10 free credit and orange wednesdays. (my first 3G month I'll pay £5 for 3gb of data)

After that I'll jump ship to O2, but always have the orange sim if I need it. (If their service coverage is better wherever I happen to be)

Has anyone noticed that the Orange iPad app says:

Being an O2 iPhone customer, I'm already aware how bad their 3G coverage is in my area. This has led me towards either Vodafone or Orange.

May try out both just to see who is better (or maybe they're both worse than O2).

Another key issue is the number of wifi hotspots each company offers with their service.

Orange - BT Openzone (750Mb per month fair usage)
O2 - BT Openzone and Cloud ("unlimited")
Vodafone - Nothing, nada, zip...

IMO at present, the only option if you want your iPad to be as intended, a always connected mobile device it can only be Orange.

O2 has a terrible 3G coverage. Its good in cities and some built up areas but everywhere else its shocking!! :eek:

I recently traveled for 2 hours on a main rail route to London. During the trip my O2 iPhone would only get 3G and at lot of the time cellular reception when approaching a station. A lady in front of me, also with an iPhone but on Orange continued to surf the web using 3G for virtually the whole journey.

There is a reason its cheaper and easier to activate your iPad sims through O2.... think about it! ;)
 
Orange does seem to be one of the better options for 3G coverage. In my town O2 has very flakey edge and Vodafone has no 3G at all. Three seems the best for me. My son and I did a test travelling down the M6 from Cumbria (J36) to Cheshire around J26 comparing O2 and Three. O2 was constantly loosing connection and rarely had 3G whilst Three was almost 100% 3G coverage. I would have liked to try the same experiment with Orange.

I was going to say O2 just because they have superior free wifi coverage, but after seeing your post colmaclean, I may have to have another look at Orange... I had no idea you could use Openzone with them, so thanks for that!

Different situation up here. Orange only works in some towns and O2 Works in more areas. Vodaphone is non existent though they still try you sell it.

I'm a regular on the East Coast Main Line from Newcastle to London, and I'm afraid this is also my experience. O2's 3G coverage outside the major conurbations is patchy at best. There's free wifi on the train, which you'd like to think would make up for it, but it's slower than GPRS — when you can get connected.

Just tried to do the same online but couldn't see an option to sign up to the 3GB per month option.

Rang Orange only to be told that the microsims aren't available yet, but would be in a couple of days. Do I detect a Customer Service rep who is talking cr*p?

That's nothing, I went into my local Orange store on Monday to order/preorder a microsim. Let's just say I was greeted with questions such as "so what is an iPad?" from one employee, whilst the other (a manager!) spent 20 minutes making a fruitless search on their computer system for the sim order sku. So much for telecoms experts :confused:
I made my excuses and left, never to return lol.
