That's nothing, I went into my local Orange store on Monday to order/preorder a microsim. Let's just say I was greeted with questions such as "so what is an iPad?" from one employee, whilst the other (a manager!) spent 20 minutes making a fruitless search on their computer system for the sim order sku. So much for telecoms experts
I made my excuses and left, never to return lol.

Sounds fairly typical!

It's another reason for favouring O2. They have had a working relationship with Apple from the earliest iPhone 2G days, and understand the products rather better.

I don't know how much extra they could know bearing in mind all the other carriers now carry iPhones. They are expert at screwing us with the contract when a new iPhone hits the market though. :)

Do they do a microsim for the iPad?

Not that I could find. But they do a Pay Monthly sim for £5/m with unlimited internet (naturally limited at 1gb) that I plan to cut to size. Seems to be the best deal I could find, though whether they will cut me off for not spending anything on calls I don't know...

Seems to be a lot of people who don't presently own O2, 3G devices looking at the results of the poll so far....

Ofcom produced a review of the 3G coverage of all the UK operators last year. You can get the pdf review from the Ofcom site at http://www.ofcom.org.uk/media/features/msaone just click on the 3G coverage maps link.

I think I'm going for Orange in the short term, their coverage looks the best of the 3 announced suppliers, although it obviously depends on where you'll be based/travelling. Orange and T-Mobile have merged so hopefully we'll get the benefit of their combined network someday.

3 (H3G) looks the best 3G coverage in the report. If they announce that they're supporting the iPad or we find out it just works, I'll probably give them a blast for a month.
