The date will most likely get bumped up. They tend to be a bit conservative with dates, I wouldn't be surprised if next week you see your date change to the 21st

Yep we've seen that happen plenty of times before!

But the sim-free version must be plentiful or no one is buying those, because a co-worker just sent me a text to see if I had ordered. She said she fell a sleep and just ordered like 3 minutes ago at 2:49 which is almost an hour after launch of pre-orders and she still got the Sept 21 date for her order.

I don't know if you have an apple store near you but on their website it still has launch day pick up if that's an option for you? It sucks that that happened. I wasn't even able to place my order until 12:10am because it wouldn't let me in either. I wound up purchasing through my AT&T account because the apple store was still down for me.
