OS 3.1.3 Contains New Baseband v.05.12.01 - Not Compatible with Blacksn0w!

If it can't be jailbroken then what's the point of mentioning the unlock? That's how I see it.

This thread is not about the USB hack. It's about the new baseband and the fact that it doesn't work with blacksn0w. Just as with 05.11.07, there will be tons of people who unwittingly upgrade their phones and lock them up. Many of those will be perfectly capable of downgrading their firmware (since they either have a 3G or their ECID SHSH on file), but will still be unable to unlock their phones for the foreseeable future. Firmware upgrades are potentially reversible; baseband upgrades are not.

Furthermore, baseband has absolutely nothing to do with jailbreaking, so it would be completely misleading to make a thread title that suggests it does. It is not the baseband that prevents blackra1n from working, it is the USB patch. And that is not what this thread is about.

Hmm I see! Thanks for clarifying that. Also it is still important to note that blackra1n does not work with 3.1.3 and I am pretty sure a lot of people used blackra1n followed by blacksn0w to unlock their 3.1.2 devices. That's why I mentioned it

Huh? I have or had no intent on "jacking" your thread. I just thought that nearly everybody used blacksn0w after they jailbroke with blackra1n. And I am trying to say is that it's important to make it more clear to everybody that blackra1n does not work because that is how they got to blacksn0w.

I would have to disagree. A large number of jailbreakers (like me) are on official Apple carriers.

Have no idea what the percentage is, but I doubt that nearly everybody who jailbreaks must unlock.

After you said this, I had to go look, just out of morbid curiosity. Then I was greeted by this:

Actually, most replacements are re-manufactured phones and so far the remanufactured 3GS's are coming still with the old bootrom. And it will still have 3.1.2 firmware, so...

if it were me, I wouldn't wait.

Not just yet. Hopefully they'll start putting features in OS 4.0 that will make it less neccessary to jailbreak. Ya know, simple things like backgrounds and more in-depth home screen customization, custom alert sounds, multitasking, more API's officially available to developers.

If the new phone and OS 4.0 are really gonna as big as we're hearing, then I'll wait to see that before I worry about the JB window closing...

Jailbreakable, but not unlockable yet?

So after hours of trying to figure out why I was having trouble unlocking my iPhone but was able to jailbreak it just fine (Even 3.1.3 jailbroke easily in redsn0w [DONT USE blackra1n on it for now] Blackra1n freezes up.) So I looked up what the baseband was and i found out it was the modem firmware- I check and i have 05.12.01 which so far appears stubborn. ATT still works fine, but won't let me go with tmobile yet. I bought a chip from ebay which is supposed to adhere to the simchip and be able to unlock any phone- WISH ME LUCK if nothing works before I recieve it!

If you Haven't upgraded to 3.1.3 yet, don't if you need to unlock it!

It is really sad that so many people feel they are entitled to the jailbreak tools. You see the same sort of arrogant, immature postings on the DevTeam Blog.

It would probably dissuade me from releasing any additional jailbreak software assuming I was gifted enough to know how to write such things, which I am not

I've looked through the rom and have had no luck on figuring anything out. Anyone want to help? There is no way to unlock your iPhone. If there ever is an unlock, it will be announced at http://blog.iphone-dev.org/. All you can do is wait, I'm afraid.
