os 2.0 and 3.0 were showed off in march. will they do the same for 4.0? its pretty much march and we have no word on the event. is this something they roll out unnoticed or do they invite people to see?

Apple doesn't tend to announce events until around a week beforehand, and with last years event being held on the 17th of March, we still have plently of time yet for Apple to make an announcement for another March event.

What if ...

I've wondered recently whether Apple WILL debut a 4.0 update at all this year. iPhones still haven't received 3.2, which could possibly come with many of the features given to the iPad: wallpapers, 3D dock, iBooks, bluetooth keyboard sync, refined photo app, etc. What could Apple add (short of multi-tasking or yucky-flash) that could justify a full software integer increase? I wonder if they might keep 3.0 going for another few months (or a year), adding the iPad updates to the iPhone and a few other minor changes as time progresses and release 4.0 next Winter/Spring? Though I believe Apple like having a fresh OS update each year alongside the hardware refresh.

Of course this isn't what I want ... it's more of a fear :apple:

Apple would be crazy not to make a major rehaul of the OS. It really looks dated compared to what is out on the market now and more so when it comes to features.

I really don't know how much I would enjoy my iPhone if it wasn't jailbroken. Apple has a chance to make a big change in my opinion, let's just hope they take advantage of it.

wow you should NEVER get into marketing. apple will NOT add big features like wallpapers behind icons "3D Dock"? whatever the hell that is ..

apple WILL announce a 4.0 software upgrade.. they need to keep innovating and adding features to a new firmware to get people excited about it. they will be adding features that we dont even know we want yet .. and i Can't wait .

Why do you people want OS 4.0? I can't even begin to imagine how long and how hard it'd be for Dev-Team or geohot to find a jailbreak for it.

Cause not all of us are hackers, and a lot of us appreciate the au natural version of the iPhone OS. In that, some of us get excited with new OS releases because we know we get new features, without the problems that come with jailbreaking.

a new OS could add things that you can't get through jailbreaking, or a more refined way of doing something that you can only do when jailbroken.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 4.0/iTunes X/iLife X was announced only at WWDC in June and a much later than expected iPhone release towards the end of this year.

From now till then the iPad will be the focus.

I agree Apple must do a complete OS refresh because as of now these new android superphones have the iphone beat in every aspect of the game except the appstore, yet iphone sales continue to top android sales, which really says something about the appstore + apples brandname in general. There are people who dont know what droids are, but everyone knows what an iphone is.

there are no problems that come with jailbreaking.

it so successful apple copied it with the app store

Pshh , overheating , poor battery life made worse , crashing and freezing , conflicts that simply have not been tested. Worse yet it could just turn into a brick.

No problems

Please

To turn your iPhone into a brick you would have to basically do it deliberately. It is almost impossible to turn it into a brick, without being a complete idiot. And it does not make battery life any worse if you don't have apps running in the background. Also my iPhone crashes less with jail breaking and has better battery life because I can quit processes.

Please, don't spread lies!

Not spreading lies. I just have some friends with these issues.I prefer to pay for my Apps so I really don't know. Sorry if my info is outdated

just because your friends say their jailbroken phone is having problems doesnt mean its because of that.
i personally would want my device to do what i want it to do. Apple wont allow it so thats why people can open the up the device to make it do things it should be able to. So your saying you buy things from companies and are completely satisfied with what you get and dont wish it could do something else?or more?
Jailbreaking doesnt hurt battery life or cause crashes thats just a myth and you wont brick your phone either...

Don't have friends who are noob jailbreakers. I've been using this stuff and learning about Cydia coding for a long time, and only noobs who try to be pros get their iPhones messed up.

wow most uniformed statement about jailbreaking ever.. Not one of thoes thing is associated with jailbreaking.. I have been jailbreaking since 1.x days

You CANT brick an iphone. Overheating ? Nope...battery life SAME...crashing doesnt happen.. freezing NOPE..
