Hi,
Inspired by this topic I've made an Apple-esque webpage showing the next OS, OS X Serval.

Will maybe do some more pages, like the What's New features, but let me know what you think.
Tried to pay an almost Jobsian attention to detail, but there's probably some mistakes I haven't seen! Thanks.

Edit: Added what's new page!

Looked pretty good, what else do you see OS X borrowing from iOS?
Thanks!

  • Maps, so you can send routes to your iPhone/iPad and view the 3D maps on your computer.
  • iBooks
  • Siri, probably the biggest one. Could be way more versatile than on iOS.
  • Some kind of voice only service on both Mac and iOS, eg VoiceTime
  • Smaller iOS things, like System Preferences being renamed settings, alert boxes the same as iOS, etc

I think that's pretty much all you can add unless they merge. Possibly a way to run iOS apps would be good too.

Looks really well done!

Even though I'm not a fan of Apple making OS X pretty much a bloated version of iOS.

IMO Snow Leopard was the last 'proper' desktop OS Apple made.

I would prefer a more separate direction for the Mac, too, but I think it's veering more towards iOS than away from it.

BTW, if anyone wants the wallpaper just ask, it's 3200x2000 pixels so suits retina screens well too.

Is it really going to be called Serval? I always preferred "Mink" personally :D

Awesome job! Thanks for mocking this up! VoiceTime is a good name for the iMessage Voice concept that was in my thread. Hopefully Apple will make their next OS X release like this. :D

I'm a bit afraid Apple has someday no new ideas for features of iOS/OS X or other products ;)
But I'm optimistic and excited for the next years :)
I'm sure we will see OS X 10.9 next year, but first comes iTunes 11 I think (Redesigned Stores like iOS 6).
It would be great to see Maps with iCloud Sync etc. on the Mac. Books also gets interesting with Retina Macs. And Siri of course has the biggest potential of all.
One day we will see :D

"Featuretasic"

I know Apple uses ...interesting adjectives, I can't ever really see Tim C. or Bob M. actually say "Featuretastic".

Resolutionary? :p
I wouldn't put 'Featuretastic' past them.

Also:

Edit: Oops, the wallpaper has become super compressed. I'll upload somewhere else when I get home.
Edit2: It's here and below as well, too.

Not trying to be picky here, but don't Apple call OS X "The Worlds most advanced Operating System", not "The Worlds best".

And I don't recall seeing the word "Magic" on the page once ;)

Here's the high res wallpaper:

Sombrero-Galaxy-DeepSky-sombrero-galaxy-deepsky-tienod-3200x2000.jpg

Also found it at 8000x5000ish, but posted the 3200x2000 as it's Apple's 'official' wallpaper size.

I think it's the best too, however ;)
Point taken though.

Will have to squeeze in magical or magic something-or-other in there somewhere...

Nice mock up :)

I really hope they bring maps to OS X... Google Maps has always been slow for me in the web browser, and Google Earth is awfully slow!

TalkTime is also a very good idea. I think they'll definitely bring something like that in within the next few years. Look at how text messages are slowly being replaced by internet messaging (iMessages, BBM, etc)

Serval? Eh. Is the iMac supposed to be cut out of the edit?

Yeah, it is. Like the MBP on the ML web page.

You're good. Very, very good. Apple should hire you as their designer or something.

How did you do this? Illustrator? Photoshop? Pages/Keynote? Anything?

Uh, no offence to the OP, but it's actually not that difficult to do. Most of it is just replacing text and images off the current Lion page. It does look good though, for the most part.

Yeah, I know how it's done. But he really did pay attention to details and improvised some icons. I want to know how he did it.

I don't know what the OP did, but from experience I'd say Photoshop would probably the the quickest and easiest method.

The only complaint I have with the OPs design is that the icons under the "over 200 new features" heading look irregular and not as polished as the rest. It's just me being nit picky though.
