ok, photoshop 7 is on the way in os x style, and we already got illustrator 10, indesign 2 etc., point being, adobe knows what up. but what about macromedia. do we need to wait for dreamweaver 5 and flash 6 before we will see them for os x? the waiting for that can be incredible long, it's not like flash gets updated every year. i for one can't wait, i never wanna use classic mode, question is, will we see os x version EVER before next revision/version? this can be a painful waiting...

yea....

i really would like to see a flash 5 in osX i just ordered about 10 minutes ago dreamweaver flash5 fireworks all in this nice little bundle i have a felling that they will release it on os x in a year or less.

Flash 6 is gonna be released in the next 3/4 weeks & I think it's likely that an X version will appear alongside the OS9/windows versions.

It's true they have been pretty quiet and slow to show OSX development but they have make OSX players for director 8.5 + Flash 6, and there are OSX features build into the Flash 6 windows beta version.

well thats some of the best osx news ive heard since the release of 10.1. i will get really excited when dreamweaver is released, but i guess the last update was pretty recent.

the flash 6 beta (windows) has been doing the rounds for the last month or two and I've heard talk from a few other people/developers to suggest that it will be out shortly.

Also Macromedia posted the beta version of the flash 6 player on their site last week for developers to test backward compatibility with current sites. They wouldn't have done this unless they were about to release the next version.

no kidding, i feel your pain...if i could just get my hands on dreamweaver for X, flash for X, and photoshop, i'd never have to use classic again...after casually working with GoLive for a few projects, I'm thinking about gettin the latest one since at least that is carbonized...

i think stuff like the interface will be the biggest change, folders in the timeline like photoshop, panels revamp with one or two new ones, video is gonna be interesting in f6 - just download the beta player from the macromedia site and right/control click on a flash site to see some of the video features.

Here's the FAQ... click on the upper "beta" link to download:

yah i'm not saying that they won't release dreamweaver etc., for os x, i just don't wanna wait a year or two for the next revision..., but new flash around the corner an upgrade of dreamweaver should be far away with support for new flash 6 updates.;)

seeing all the stuff that adobe put into golive 6 for win but left out for mac, i wouldnt be suprised if it takes an extra long time for flash 6 for os X....it really seems like the companies are drifting windowsward

well there are some cellphone support stuff thats not on the mac (mainly becauser there is no mac version of the phone emulator) thats not too big, but its suprising that they'd throw it in goLive 6 when basically all their progs have been the same on both platforms. so its like saying to the mac designers "you'll have to get a wintel to do this"

also, I'm not sure to what extent it it "supports" A$P, but thats also a bit weird.....

not that its a big difference, but its enough to be noticable. to the point that I wouldn't doubt there being differences between win PS 7 and mac PS 7...like perhaps optimization differences

I know I'm being a bit picky here, but it's weird to read the golive feature list and see 'windows only' features with no mac counterpart

Never mind differences with Mac/PC versions - I first bought GoLive when it was Mac only (called GoLive CyberStudio).

But I will say this for Adobe - at least they release software that doesn't crash every two minutes.

Flash 5 on the Mac is sometimes so unstable it's unusable - and Macromedia don't seem to accept responcibility for any of the problems.

I wish to christ I could use Adobe LiveMotion 2, but I need to work on .FLA files.

Please Macromedia ... When Flash 6 does eventually appear, make it stable.

flash 5 has always been stabile for me, but at times its been slow, refused to publish, and in os 9.1 i've ALWAYS had this horrible artifacts problem that prevented drawing successfuly.....livemotion looks nice, but IMO its better to use the program that was created by the people who created flash. sure easy text effects are nice, but good animation isnt supposed to come easily....not to mention its interface is SO different. why learn two different interfaces when they both do the same thing? ok maybe livemotion is easier, but thats not going to make your artwork any better

I do most of my development using Flash on macs and pcs, I've found that it is a stable app on both platforms. If you are having problems on the mac make sure you've updated to Flash verion 5a, there's a download on the macromedia site - it improves stability.

That said, there is a different between the preformance of mac and pc version of both the player and the application(while authoring) - how many times have I opened the actionscript window on a mac and had to wait 10 secs (also happens with the Library). Now this maybe because of the archietecture of OS8-9, we all know the new OSX version of flash is gonna be fantastic to work with - you've just gotta look at what other developers have done with their software.

Oh yeah also heard macromedia are gonna be demonstrating 'a new flash product' to their authorised training centres throughout Feb and the first two weeks of march, so we won't have to wait too much longer now before we really find out how 'committed' macromedia is to the OSX platform.

really? i'm taking a flash class in washington at the end of the month...if i see or hear anything i'll let people know here...it is at the END of the month though, so i wouldn't be surprised for it to be old news by then, if there really is any news in the first place

it's not to classes at centres, but to the trainners - I guess to prepare them for the new course content.

oh okay..the class is held by a pretty reputable place with a decent (published) instructor so i'll try to pry any info out of him, in that case...

Could be worse, we could be discussing Quark and their lack of an OS X product. How ridiculous are they. Macromedia will come along probably sooner rather than later. It isn't like their products are easy to develop.

Dreamweaver 5 is a comin'

I understand that Dreamweaver 5 is in beta. It has a lot of ultradev features. I do not know if it has been carbonized. Anyone else have any information. Fireworks 5 is nowhere in sight.

I switched from GoLive to Dreamweaver to teach a class in it and really like its site management features. It runs on classic (as does Fireworks) but I wish it was carbonized so that it wouldn't crash so often due to some sort of memory leak.

Any thoughts?

i wish i knew more about when dreamweaver would be carbonized...

fortunately, i think i have a date on carbonized flash 6...

look for march 15...

i just took a flash actionscript class and the instructor (one of the guys who writes for the bible series of help books) said the ole "you didn't hear this from me..but"...there's also one of those sales pitch hour long presentations highlighting the new features of flash and cold fusion workflow on march 6 i'm going to, so i have to think that's legit...

(by the way i just found out about this yesterday, which is why i was crying about macromedia's lack of carbon programs at the start of the thread earlier in the week)
