It's not Summer at the end of June? News to me! Ever since I've known it, certainly here in the UK, June is Summer.

Spring is March/April/May, Summer is June/July/August, Autumn is September/October/November, Winter is December/January/February.

Since when has June not been Summer?!

Yeah but when did Apple said that they are going to release the beta in the beginning of summer? They mentioned that they will release it during the summer which means that they have all the time till the end of August. So I guess we have some time to wait still. Patience.

That's still the developer preview.

It is known that iOS developers have also now been granted access to the OS X dev previews too, probably to expand the number of testers even further. Perhaps that's what the TWiT caller got mixed up with too.

I think it's certainly the case that everyone else is saying, in that the public preview will be a much more well rounded and stable release, just so they can fine tune it down to removing the bugs usually found once the final version has been released to the public.

I sort of believed that would be the case anyway, but these claims of people getting invites just puzzled me.

Also, don't you need Yosemite to code in Swift ? (which would be another very big reason for them to send Yosemite DP to iOS devs)

Summer's officially considered started on June 21st, but of course not every single institution sticks with that

For exemple, schools let out for "summer" way before June 21st in most cases, and start school in "The Fall" even though it's August.

Knowing Apple, Summer for them is probably Late June -> Early September. (June 21st -> September 22nd). They could also be going by fiscal quarters/calendar quarter with "Summer" being the 4th fiscal quarter/third calendar quarter (July 1 -> September 30)

No, in fact that's not recommended. Yosemite is not for production development systems,

New developer XCode is for Mavericks.

Not that it cant be done... Just you introduce even more flakiness and potential headache for yourself.
