Your luck isn't likely to hold out, as Microsoft officially stated that the combination doesn't work.

I can live with that since I only ever use Outlook at my workstation. Mail app works fine for me in the meantime. It's ugly but I can deal with it, lol. I'll start using Outlook more intentionally on my personal machine and see how it turns out. Should I be concerned more about the stability of 2016 or 2011?

NO product manager at Dell or Lenovo would DREAM of shipping a laptop that didn't work with MS Outlook. A PM who did that would be fired on the spot. No question. I don't know what this PM was thinking. If it's not fixed tomorrow, this laptop goes back to Best Buy and I'll go back to Windows. I can't work without email. The computer's a brick as far as I'm concerned.

And Apple didn't make a laptop that didn't work with Outlook. Your point is not valid. If Dell shipped that laptop with Linux instead of Windows, Outlook wouldn't work. Is that Dell or Ubuntu's fault? No, it's Microsoft's fault for not having a version of outlook for that OS. This is 100% on the software developer, not the OS developer. And I say this as a person who is a software developer by profession. Heck, half of my career has been making ancient products work on newer systems. Stop blaming Apple. Microsoft is the one that has to fix it.

All I can say is a Time Machine backup is your friend if you have one and you upgraded. Used a TM backup to revert on my main work computer.
