SOOOO what your saying is that mac and there infinate wisdome does not sell a os disk for there intel line of notebooks?????

every intel mac ever sold came with the current OS, known as Tiger, pre-installed and also came with restore discs to reinstall Tiger if need be.

Because every intel mac already came with the OS already included, there is no reason for Apple to sell a stand-alone version of Tiger for Intel macs.

i believe apple will send you replacement installation discs for a nominal fee for your machine after you provide them with a serial number.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO is that finally clear enough for you?

That is correct, because every computer capable of running the Intel version of Tiger already shipped with the disc.

Since you don't have the install disc, which the original owner should have transfered to you when you purchased the computer, you should contact Apple directly and explain the situation. They will be able to get what you need.

And I am sure they will be able to get it to you cheaper then $130.

What's PPC ?

PPC is in reference to Power PC, in this situation it would have been the older PowerBook. Oh how I loved that powerbook, but man do I love my new MBP (that's MacBook Pro incase you were having trouble with the lingo).

Yep! Much cheaper... it's called AppleCare Replacement DVD's and it's printed as "Replacement DVD...Not for Resale". Each DVD has a generic white label with the Apple Logo also along with either Install Disc 1 and Install Disc 2 printed on it. From what I recall, it costs between $40-$50 for a set. AppleCare will need the serial number, and they ship the discs to you via FedEx. And it is specific for the type of Intel Mac that you have. In fact, they usually asks for the build number (they'll guide you on how to view that under 'About This Mac')... that's if you can still successfully boot up to the desktop screen. Call 1-800-APL-CARE for more details. Good Luck!

I don't get it. If every computer already comes with a disc, why does Apple sell any version of Tiger? Why would they sell it for older hardware, but not newer hardware?

Am I missing something here?

You've started three threads on this subject, so I've merged them all together. In the future, please continue to use the original thread you start on a topic and follow the posts that are being made there.

Because many computers shipped with earlier versions of OS X than Tiger. There are a ton of users who needed to upgrade to Tiger. Just like we're all planning to do when Leopard comes out.

The retail version of Tiger is for Power PC processors. When 10.4 came out, there were no Intel CPUs in macs. When the transition to Intel started, a new version of Tiger was developed..."Tiger for Intel."

Since all Intel machines were built after Tiger was out, there is no need for a retail version of 10.4 on Intel. All Intel macs have Tiger to begin with. But there are still users with PPC processors that are using 10.3 or earlier, and they can upgrade to Tiger. That's why Apple sells it for PPC and not Intel.
