I've missed your point, go figure.

I did take a look at AT&T's wireless service agreement which led me to their plan terms...

...They then go on to state in the Service Availability and Access/Coverage section BroadbandConnect, EDGE and GRPS...

...So in the end I really don't see the problem. I am an informed buyer. I want the service for when I am away from my house where I have Wi-Fi. I think they basically just blew it.

While i can sympathize, if your situation is a minority position, the fact that you actually bothered to read the EULA puts you into an even smaller minority. Put yourself in AT&Ts place -while the reason for denying the activation should be clear, how many angry, annoyed calls do they head off by simply not selling service where there is no service? I guarantee you that was the "vision" some executive had when this topic came up.

Having said that, i agree with you. A simple prompt that required acceptance as well as a detailed reason for denying the activation would have headed this off. On the other hand, people don't read those warnings. In my mind, AT&T is pretty much screwed either way, but Apple should have made it more informative.

And back to the original topic - happy with mine, gives me the ubiquitous connectivity that I wanted, so far no complaints at all, other than needing to sell off my original WiFi version.

Of course you have. Heaven forbid anyone have an opinion different than you. Go back to cuddling up with your Apple Products.

Final comment and I'm out of here for good. There are 3 full pages of discussion thread over at Apple Support with people screaming about the very same issue I brought up. So I guess I'm not really in the vast minority after all. I predict that if they don't get this solved quickly they will be receiving a boat load of 3G iPads back.

Nope...I'm not buying it. People who have problems are the ones most likely to start/post in 3 page threads over at Apple Support, while the silent majority just enjoys the heck out of their shiny new device. I seriously doubt Apple will see "a boat load" of returns due to this issue.

3G is well worth the upgrade to me! I gave the wifi to my vp and love the 3G unit just fine. Will only use 3G when I have to, but it is nice for it to be there.

Those that are most disappointed are the ones who thought they would be getting as good as performance on the 3G units as wifi.

I am glad ATT restricted things of people would be staying on 3G all the time clogging up the network. Just so they can "get their money's worth"

LOL!

Freaky reply, I haven't stated my opinion. So what's your point this time?

You said you were excited before you got the iPad, bought one but couldn't really be bothered to look at it.......

I love mine. I had the Wifi so I knew I would love it already. It is helping me to become more organized. It is also really fun to use.

Hawksma, I think you are gone already but if not, I can totally validate that your situation sucks! I would be so disappointed! I hope you can find a way for it to work or that they change their approach to people who live in the boonies!

Can't put it down..

The wait was long.. But so worth it! This thing is amazing. Everything I hoped for and way more. Won't replace my late 09 mbp but with 3G built in and the very portable size it's going to come a lot of places with me. Recommend it to anyone and everyone! It's not until you have one and use it for a day or more that you realize how much more it is than a large iPod touch.
