I like the new MBAs; but, their pricing is very deceptive, imo.

Let's take a look at a real-world performing 11.6" version and the ACTUAL price:
-64MB will never cut it for full-blown OSX, so 128GB = $1199 starting point.

Then your likely to add:
-1.6GHz Processor +100 (much faster than base)
-4GB memory +100 (must for latest apps)
-iWork +49
-3yr AppleCare Protection Plan +249 (!!)
-Mini DisplayPort to DVI +29
-MagSafe Airline Adaptor +49

Total: $1775 + Tax!! For the smaller MBA. (And many of you may need more additions).

You forgot the Apple Cinema Display. And then AppleCare for that. That should bring the price over $2800 + Tax!!!

Please post or PM me on the trick to doing this. Thanks

No trick. When ordering online just go to the "education store" and pick any school in your area. From there you can purchase. They don't ask for proof of enrollment, I.D. or anything. It's crazy really ha.

eBay for Apple Care, 50-100 bucks. There, you just saved 150-200 dollars.

i will bet you 10-1 that you cannot find applecare for that price on ebay....you want to take that bet?

I bet the cheapest you can find it for will be around $160-170....

How about the fact that AppleCare is less than $100 on eBay, or that many of the additional add ons like cables and attachments and software are much cheaper elsewhere too.

The thing is, it will run OS X perfectly fine as a base setup for $999. If you want to run Windows virtually, you need more RAM. However, in BootCamp you could run either OS just fine with 2 GB RAM. Heck, better than fine, great.

AppleCare can be purchased eleven months and 29 days in the future for $90.

Anything else is extras not the norm. Especially software and add-on cables. Heck, with iLife 11 you can do a lot. Add with that a free version of Open Office, and you can do Word, Excel, and PowerPoint presentations without a fee.

I think it's a really great deal to be out the door $999 plus tax. Heck, with education it's even cheaper. These prices are way lower than before, and they're really low considering the new MBA vs. other Macs. I think it's the best value of any Macs to date.
