Hi guys

Just thought I would say that Microsoft have released an Outlook 2011 update.

My Outlook seemed to work and was responsive for several seconds longer than before. I got halfway through the exchange sync but ultimately the application has locked up again.

I was able to get as far as to see some of my messages come through.

Thanks, downloaded and installed - shows version 14.5.5 (150821) - exchange crashed (spinning wheel) 2 times after the update but is running after launching the 3rd time. So far it is working with multiple IMAP accounts and one exchange account for about 30 min.

Hope this is the fix for outlook 2011 and el capitan

Thats good that its working for you.

No matter how many times I relaunch this it still hangs when it syncs to exchange.

Do you know how old the exchange server is you are communicating with?

Sorry don't know what year the exchange server is - it is not a recent version.

Our company exchange email is outsourced.

I have had lots of problems with outlook 2011 since upgrading to El CAP - but things are looking much better.

No crash yet on the exchange account and it's been 2 hours.

FWIW - I did previously do a clean install of outlook 2011 and rebuilt the data base, and archived all previous years of email completely separate from the new install / Identity.

Just an update - not a crash for 7 hours - wow!

Looks like a good update for me - johnnyenv has not had the same response.

Any other feedback?

Has anyone else found that Outlook is still crashing after the update to both Office and El Capitan? I want to upgrade to El Capitan but not is it kills Outlook.

Took a while to find out - our exchange server is Exchange 2010

Looks like exchange server 2010 might be where microsoft drops support for Office 2016 ( not supported for earlier exchange versions) , not sure how this affects office 2011 support in El Capitan - hope it does not.

It may be that the focus of Microsoft and Apple will be on support of 2016 - not on 2011 - that will create sales for the new version of Office. I can't really hold that against microsoft - but for the most part office 2011 does everything I need it to.

I am still having occasional outlook crashes but can use outlook 2011 for the exchange email

Recently I have noticed bugs in excel also - copy / paste stops working, printing files to PDF does not work sometimes. I have to quit excel and launch it again to get it to work properly.

Hi,

So this is still not working for me. After the latest update my Outlook shows its connected to exchange. It downloaded the folders but no email content. Once it starts to do that the application hangs. I have reinstalled the application, deleted the local database etc etc and still nothing.

I think regardless of the support team working on 2016 the priority should be breaking 2011.

I know this isn't very helpful, but if you are a Office 365 subscriber you get Office 2016 for free, which works much better on El Capitan.

Unfortunately, Outlook 2016 only works with Exchange Server 2010 and higher. There are a lot of people who need to connect to Exchange Server 2007, which necessitates using Outlook 2011. And that's not an option on El Capitan right now.

Edit: The problem remains in 10.11.1.

Thanks for confirming this.

I really don't know why this issue still exists after this long. Its pretty major. Especially for me who has a Mac at work on a Microsoft Exchange server that isn't getting upgraded until next year.

I hope I am wrong but it is starting to look like both Apple and Microsoft might leave 2011 behind.

Perhaps for reasons of selling office 2016 ?

Supposedly office 2016 works with exchange 2010 and above and leaving apple support for el capitan at better than 2010.

I can get outlook 2011 working with 10.11.1 on a 2010 exchange server but it still crashes every couple of hours.

Sound like everyone with earlier versions of exchange prior to 2010 will have even more issues.

I am willing to wait and see what develops - but it has to be frustrating to purchase 2016 and still have the same problems!

I'll take a couple of hours over a couple of seconds. What did you do?

Does anyone have the Exchange version Outlook goes to that seems to work with El Captain? Me thinks this is the glitch more so than outlook.

I'd say wait til the public release of 10.11 tomorrow and see if it gets fixed as there may be some small changes Apple does to the OS which (hopefully) will fix the issue.

Don't know if this will work for anyone else, but I turn off the exchange account by going to Preferences<accounts<exchange account.

I can disconnect the exchange account by selecting the authentication method to "kerberos" and "kerberos ID" none.

This temporarily removes the exchange account from connecting to the exchange server.

Then I let any other imap and any other email accounts sync and leave outlook open for a while and after 5 min I go back to accounts and move the exchange account settings back to "User Name and Password"

then it works - sometimes for hours - sometimes all day - today it worked all day.

Yes - exchange isn't compatible with 10.11. Microsoft has a page explaining this. Also, even iCal isn't compatible with my work's exchange server environment - same as yours 2007 R2. All I can use right now is Apple Mail for Exchange and Busycal for my calendar.

I've seen a page about Outlook 2011 having issues with OS X 10.11 at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3098396 but haven't seen one for Exchange in general.
