I have installed Office 2011 14.5.5 which was installed today after a complete removal of the prior version following MS instructions. Outlook is working with the latest version of Exchange 2013 which is working fine with Apple Mail on 10.11. Other than Outlook, the other Office apps are working fine. Outlook hangs when it attempts updating with Exchange. I contacted MS tech support. They acknowledge a problem with Outlook an 10.11. They are trying to uncover the issue to release an update. BTW, the issue was the same on 3 different Macs.

BTW, Office 2016 appears to have issues with 10.11 as well. https://www.thurrott.com/cloud/offi...table-on-el-capitan-be-careful-if-you-upgrade
"Office 2016 on El Capitan is unstable and virtually impossible to use on my machine; all of the apps crash multiple times a day. To top it off, I have had the error reporting mechanism crash (above image) while trying to send my crash log after Outlook bit the dust. The crashing is so bad that I cannot trust the apps to work long enough to accomplish anything meaningful which renders my Mac useless for daily tasks."

I don't get it. This has been known since 10.11 betas and Microsoft not only hasn't addressed it but supposedly hasn't figured out what the issue is? For retail and professional and enterprise level software this is some really shoddy support.

Thanks guys for the information on Office 365/2016.....

I haven't upgraded yet and now knowing this I won't until this issue is resolved.
I need to use Office daily and this won't fly.

Thanks....

this is seriously disappointing that 2011 and 2016 won't work at all for anyone having to use Exchange 2007. Bizzaro world stuff.

As of version 10.11.1 beta (15B22c) - still no change - outlook still crashes

Hope that Microsoft might fix this?

Be cool to know if this is going to be fixed or if this is the point where both companies choose to end support and if users need to upgrade to office 2016

WORKED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR UNTIL THE SPINNING BALL CAME BACK! I shouldn't say "it worked" because it would not load any new emails and every email I sent did not leave outbox.

MacBook Pro late 2011 (non-Retina), OSX El Capitan, Office for MAC 2011

As mentionned before, I installed update 14.5.6 for Outlook for Mac 2011 and it didn't work.

Well, I have good news.

Just opened Outlook for Mac 2011 and promptly checked the "work offline" option so that it doesn't freeze. I then asked Outlook to check for updates and it found 14.5.7.

I installed it and it works!!!

Eureka!

Confiming - Same here! - have not had any issues with Office / outlook / excel/ word / etc. for over a week - exchange email is working perfectly and no issues what so ever.

Seems like the fix was 14.5.6 since that is when exchange started working for me - but I updated to 14.5.7 just to be sure - all is good

Thanks Microsoft!:D

I feel like I'm back using Excel from the early Mac days in 1985. I've upgraded Office with the most current patches from Microsoft (e.g. 14.5.7 for Excel) and have upgraded El Capitan with Apple's release that is suppose to fix the Office Problems (10.11.1) and the problems continue. Just opening Excel gets you the spinning rainbow wheel. Simply tasks like copying cells between worksheets via the clipboard takes 8-20 seconds just to copy and paste between sheets in a workbook - you get that dreaded spinning wheel every time. Maybe this is Microsoft and Apple's way of giving tribute to the movie Back to the Future?
