There is a way ...

Hello I found a way to make it work.
It takes some times but at the end of the day you are up and running with your outlook and all your messages.
Here are the steps I performed
0. close outlook
1. copy the Main Identity somewhere safe
2. delete the Main Identity
3. open outlook, create the new identity. Outlook will now open without a problem
4. configure again your accounts (exchange or imap). At this point you will see all the messages you had on the exchange or imap server.
So far nothing new. Let's see how to recover the local folders. you need a mac with Mavericks installed, a vmware virtual will do the job.
5. copy your Main Identity folder to the mac with Mavericks.
6. copy somewhere safe the current Main Identity on that mac, if there is any.
7. delete the Main Identity and replace it with the one you copied over
8. launch outlook, it could be you need to rebuild the database
9. use export in the file menu and export everything to a .olm file
10. when the export is terminated copy the exported file to your Yosemite mac
11. open outlook and import the .olm file you just brought over
12. you will find all the messages in the Archive Mail folder, the local ones and the ones that were in the outlook cache when you did export them

Quite long and time consuming but it works.
Be sure to have enough disk space when generating the .olm file

cheers

Could it be the size of the cached mailbox?
or something related to the growth of emails in the local outlook mailbox?

I'm sure it does. Mine is huge

I have 2 accounts, 1 is imap the other one is exchange.
If I add more emails on the remote server, for example copying a folder several times, then I can't see the main window anymore when I open outlook.
I deleted one account, the imap one, and outlook opens correctly showing me the exchange account.
I will try to do viceversa so to understand if there is an issue with imap or exchange growing more than outlook on Yosemite can handle.

Mine is a single exchange account, hosted on Office365.
It is rather large though as I keep all my emails.

I guess I should figure out how to archive :)

Ive moved back to 10.9.4 for now until this is resolved.

Downgraded to Marvericks

If you are an Microsoft Outlook user...my advice do not upgrade. Just spent 4 hours downgrading to Marvericks (thanks to Time Machine)!

The main window will open if I remove my IMAP (Gmail) account and run with just my Exchange account. That'll have to do until Yosemite is in production.

Yosemite build and Outlook 2013 issues

Found a solution. Grasping at straws for hours....even did a clean wipe of drive only to find that Yosemite Time Machine will not work with Mavericks install.

FINALLY found a solution that works.

a) Create a new user profile and rebuild your database in Outlook OR 'B' solution.

b) Do a complete clean reinstall of Microsoft Office.

You need APP ZAPPER or some app cleaner/delete to get a totally clean install. You need to clean out folders, preferences, caches and everything related to Microsoft. If you know how to pick through your library user/library folders, preferences, caches and all the details you can do a complete clean reinstall.

Do all your Microsoft updates.

Then rebuild your database...the main window should appear. I tried it closed Outlook and then it opened up with the MAIN WINDOW appearing showing email folders/list.

HOPE IT HELPS

Are you totally up to date on Office - 14.4.3? I think I've tried that once but am willing to try it again. Whats strange is the exact same identity works fine on my MBA running Yosemite..

Outlook for Mac 2011 initializes but actual program won't open

Guys,

The same problem repeated this morning! :(

I tried jumping from Outlook to Apple Mail and it has the same problem, but worse: it crashes Apple Mail every time.

NEW THEORY: It must be something with Exchange server settings and Yosemite. The reason why I think this if you add your Exchange account as iMAPS settings it works and shows up. HOWEVER, that's not what we want and the SMTP or SEND of all your mail doesn't work.

It could be that the bugs hasn't been worked out in MAIL and Outlook hasn't been updated worth a hoot. I also see that since Yosemite goes live in the Fall that Microsoft has little or NO incentive to fix this problem since Outlook 2014 is coming out.

NEW SOLUTION: I'm doing a 30 day trial of POSTBOX with iMAP settings, RECEIVING AND SENDING email works. However, it's not the way to go since it's not truly 'real time' with email in light of updating and organizing your email.

ANOTHER SOLUTION: If your mail has a web-based email browser capabilities that might be the alternative to go.

It finally worked

Outlook Exchange email account issues with Yosemite.

• Outlook with iMAP accounts works.
• If you create a NEW user account and set up an Outlook Exchange email account - even if it's the same - it works.

• After several hours of hair pulling and forum reading this is what I found:

A) Delete your Microsoft Folder in documents (back it up) somewhere, but delete it from the drive - at least you have a copy somewhere
B) Get AppZapper, and do a complete clean install. This means deleting your library related Microsoft plist, preferences, application support folder, anything Microsoft related
C) REINSTALL Office and apply ALL updates to Microsoft Office 14.4.3 - I think.
D) Run DISK UTILITY and repair permissions
E) Then, and finally: add your Exchange account to Outlook
F) I quit the app and reopened and it finally worked.

Good luck...for me this finally worked. I hope it holds up for 1 month and then I can get out of BETA.

Not Working with Beta 2

Outlook opens normally, but no home window appears.

You can create a new e mail, and it appears to send, but nothing actually sends

I've gone through the above steps a few times now with 14.4.4 and can get it to work once.. After it finishes grabbing all my mail from exchange the first time it won't update any longer. I never see any new mails after the first pull. If I quit Outlook and restart it then I'm back to the "no screen at all" issue.

I can't explain why, but the fix for me (on multiple Macs) is to ensure that no folders are expanded. When Outlook folders are expanded, and you then quit Outlook, the main window will not display when you start Outlook again. The only after-the-fact fix for the main-window problem is to delete the com.microsoft.Outlook.plist from ~/Library/Preferences, then start Outlook while holding the Option key, create a new account, and finally set the new account as your default.

Once Outlook finishes rebuilding everything, collapse ALL folders. If you have any folders stored locally, go into Preferences->General and unhide "On My Computer" folders.

Remember to always collapse folders before you quite Outlook, and you should be fine. This works for me and several co-workers.

Yep, that is my post. Glad it is working for people. Lync is still broken, won't let you login. The odd thing is the old Communicator still works...
