Every time I end up with a counterfeit from Amazon, if I try to point that out in a review, my review is immediately deleted.

Why Amazon is complicit in this, I have no idea.

There's counterfeit leather... even counterfeit motor oil and filters!

Anything that is super important, (like freaking ENGINE OIL) I don't do mail order any more, unless direct from the manufacturer.

Exactly. You can’t even get genuine Waxx underwear on Amazon.

Think before posting. I see these everywhere on OfferUp, and I almost got duped myself. People often purchase them with the shrink wrap still on. Not everyone purchasing these are for themselves; sometimes it’s as a gift and the shrink wrap is desirable.
And when it is a gift, the person using it may not know much about the quality and functions and assume that the product is working as it should.

This article is another living proof of why Apple should release the exclusive Transparent Airpods :)

I would love to see transparent airpods, but don't think the counterfeiters wouldn't be able to copy them just because you can see the internal components, unfortunately.

It happens without many people knowing - my mother in law was having hell with hers dropping connections and it took quite a bit of examination to spot physical differences. Worst part was she badmouthed apple and bought some other crap off Amazon where she got the knocks offs in the first place
Yes, it's shocking how authentic counterfeiters can make their fake products look and feel. Truly amazing and upsetting to me.

A bit exaggerated, who would buy counterfeit Airpods with likely functional flaws at the same price as Apple retail?
Would've sold for $100 at most
Most people who buy these things are tricked into thinking they are buying the original one at a slightly lower price. Lets day instead of 249 it goes for 209, just low enough not to raise suspicion.

This article inspired me to check again, if my recently bought "Original 20W USB‑C Power Adapter (NEW)" is fake. And it is an excellent counterfeit product. No spelling mistakes this time around. The only thing which truly gave it away is that the Serial No. on the packaging doesn't match the Serial No. on the device. I demanded my money back and received it 5 minutes later. Thanks China!

When I wanted a pair of knock-off ear buds, I paid less than $20. I knew they were not made by Apple, and they were supposed to use Bluetooth to listen to music from my Mac. They were too flaky and sent back for full credit.

Quite a few years ago I bought an Apple charger (small cube device with the official green dot on it) which, it turned out, did not charge my device (iPod, I think). After I reviewed it and called it a counterfeit, I was lambasted by some woman who called me a fake.

I just got swatted over 11,70 €. Presumably the seller called the police and told them, there was an armed man seen at my address. Fortunately for me, German police don't pull their gun quickly.

They have ANC. They even have spatial audio. :)

Not the ones sitting here in a drawer. The look like AirPods Pro, as does the case, and the phone recognizes them as AirPods Pro, but that's where the similarities end. Godawful sound quality, no ANC, and no Transparency or Spatial Audio.

We see fake AirPods all the time. Most people say they bought them on eBay, market place, regional equivalent site or Amazon for a ‘sale price’. At a glance they’re impossible to tell apart from authentic Apple ones. Everyone thinks they’re buying authentic.
I got suckered this way. iOS even recognized them as AirPods Pro. Until they wouldn’t update firmware. Then I knew something was up. Took to Apple Store and they confirmed… counterfeit.

Serious question; how well do they perform?
surprisingly very well, i had 2 co worker who has a knockoff airpod max, and for the longest time i thought they were genuine til they told me otherwise, compared to my wife's genuine max, i honestly couldn't tell the difference, maybe the EQ was a tad off here and there but overall you can easily fool majority of the population.

Exactly this. All those "new, sealed Airpods in box" sold at a 'discount' on FB Marketplace are crummy counterfeits. Practically none of them are real. Never expect a refund. Your money is gone.

The knockoffs I've seen don't actually even have noise cancellation. The phone does recognize them as AirPods, but they're total crap besides that. Terrible sound and no ANC.
the knockoffs i've seen have noise cancellation, the iphone even recognize them as airpods, unless you got the genuine ones next to you for sound comparison, you will have a very difficult time telling the difference.

there are different levels of counterfeits, some from barely passable to almost indistinguishable from the real thing. yours probably at the lower end of that spectrum.

There are tens or even hundreds of thousands of others being sold through places like EBay, Amazon, and Ali Express, so ~1,000 is nothing.

United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized more than 1,000 pairs of counterfeit AirPods Pro 2 devices from Washington Dulles International Airport back in March, the CBP announced yesterday.

Four shipments bound for Fairfax County, Virginia were inspected on March 15, and investigators found the 1,000 knockoff AirPods and 50 fake Apple Watches. The products were shipped from China, and counterfeiters would have made more than $290,000 selling the goods at Apple's suggested retail price had they been genuine.

The counterfeit Apple products were seized on March 29, but no one has been charged in the case.

The CBP says that during fiscal 2022, it seized close to 21,000 shipments containing counterfeit goods that violate the U.S. Intellectual Property Rights enforcement program.

Heck, we buy basic copies of them in Korea but under a completely different name: STBT E500 PRO. Says Made in China. They work perfectly for general use for my daughter, but the ones we have don't include noise cancellation. I think they were $25? Sound great. Look identical. Even fit the same cases.

I have a hard time caring

I mean you buy a new pair of pro pods from greasy looking Tyrone on the corner for $80 and you’re surprised they are fake? 😂

I’d rather the state fix the potholes before this nonsense

may not be fooling anyone under the age of 40, but still a shame when people think it’s the same ownership experience as the real think

If you’ve been on this earth longer than 40yrs and think sketchy people are going to sell you top notch stuff for a deal, that’s even worse
