OWC offering eSATA for 27" iMac 2010

i guess the apple care warranty goes out the window if you have that the esata installed? would suck if you got it installed then you get the yellow screen in a month...

So the yellow screen isnt innate? It can happen at any point to any iMac?



Does OWC also offer to install SSDs in the optibay?

the BULK of issues was fixed with that firmware upgrade which was released a long time ago, the rest of the issues are more related to batches.

read a post from one of the workers at OWC saying that they will not be offering that service at this point in time.

Fixed via firmware!??!?!? More in BATCHES??? errr ok.

eSATA looks cool but dunno about risking voiding warranty if another issue pops up.
 
I was thinking of doing this swell but instead of cutting up the chassis I would just take the sata cabled out the back through the vent.
 
This is a good solution for people who don't want to do the mod themselves.

Complainers get nothing!

Another thought I had (this would apply to the 2009 iMacs too): out the Superdrive slot. Then run the superdrive in an external USB case and run another SATA drive from the superdrive slot eSata cable.

really? interesting! actually you might be right there. i pulled appart my Time Capsule (after it died) and pulled everything apart. couldnt fix it so took it to them and they replaced it. the capacitors died, same issues as the rest.
 
I'll drill yah esata orrifice on ur iMac 4 1$ and give you a certificate not worth the paper its printed on. Will be in the US on Wednesday pm me if you wanna have yah iMac mollested :eek:

That's what I figured, blast! I didn't even care about the recent upgrades, but eSATA is something I would bite at, and while they were in there an OWC SSD is a great addition as well.
 
I don't know enough about esata. Could someone answer this? Would this kind of mod work on an iMac that is BTO with the SSD inside? I understand the internal SSD is why this new port exists, so a cable will run from that port to the SSD.

Can esata ports work with a "Y" cable (a split so that one end runs to the SSD and another runs to this OWC external port? Some kind of esata port multiplier?

OR, would this mod NOT be something that could be done while also having an internal SSD (assuming I keep the hard drive and optical drives "as is")?

while possible, it most certainly is not recommended to use a splitter cable - there are both performance and stability issues associated with such a thing.
