ECC corrects some memory errors on the fly, so it's a lot more complex to track some types of RAM errors with memtest86. ASD memory test track some errors that memtest86 can't.That was the odd bit. The last batch I tried from OWC passed hours of Memtest, but still crashed the OS.
My usual used memory test workflow is:
- run memtest86 for each DIMM alone
- run ASD for each DIMM alone
- run ASD with all DIMMs.
If I'll find a very cheap 1333MHz i7 socket 1366, 1366 socket i7s don't have ECC support, I'll buy one just for testing RAM.
