I haven't shot much this week and will try to get some more on Sunday....maybe a chance for something new tomorrow, but not holding hope for that. And my kids have a major swim meet on Saturday that is going to take up most of the day. But here are two I took today.
The first one I shared in the POTD thread. It really only works as layers because my dog is standing in the background, otherwise it would really just be shallow DOF.
The second one also really doesn't quite work for me. For one, it would be a better photo of the lights were actually on. However, the only way to power them is by an outdoor battery pack, so we only turn them on occasionally, and not just when we happen to be outside. It also doesn't have any foreground interest. However, it's different than the photo above because there are two very distinct layers, given that you can see the house in the background.
But I thought it might be useful to post these because sometimes even when you are trying to get a specific goal accomplished, it doesn't work. And I want you all to know that
this is okay. It's okay to experiment, and it's okay if not every photo works the first time. Some of these things that we cover will be hard, but it's working through the hard stuff that makes us grow. Since I know that my light bulb photo didn't work, I can look at it and figure out how to make it work better the next time. Next time might not be this week, but some day I'll go back out there and think about
this photo and find ways to accomplish layering better.
