When I'm logged into this app, some of my contacts have blank names. It just shows the icon with no username after it. If you scroll up or down the list and go back to it, sometimes it will have the username but another contact goes blank.

The privacy policy on this app is a bit dodgy. I'd read it before continuing guys (and gals)

Does this app use the phone's data portion (sorry, can't think of the name right now) and not text messaging? I remember a while ago there were some IM application (not for the iphone) that uses text messaging instead. So if you'd get charged like crazy for text messaging. I hope this app uses the internet protocol and not text messaging.

Hope I make at least some sense in my question.

Thanks!

Yes, it uses data. That means that if you aren't near a WiFi hotspot, you won't be able to do this with an iPod touch.

Instant messages don't use much data anyway (though you will still want to have a data plan!), and you will never be charged for a single text message if you use this program.

Yeah I just tried it.. I like the aim app much better which is not saying much.
lol, i feel you... this is a ridiculous excuse for an IM app... :(
if youre in america, where almost everyone uses AIM, great
here in the UK, almost everyone uses MSN, so an alternative is needed
meebo (webapp) is quite good

As I've said, I think this App is a step in the right direction. At first the buzzing was bothering me (each time you get a new message) but I figured out it could be turned off in the settings. Also, I couldn't directly figure out how to make a new account at first - UI not as intuitive as it could be.

so I downloaded this app and opened it up. I signed up for an account, no problem. I then went back to the app and entered my new username and password....now what do I do? There is no button to 'submit' my password or anything. I'm not talking about my MSN username and password I'm talking about the username and password for this app. How do I get on?

I have exactly the same problem, it seems the sign in button usually in the top right has dissappeared. I did the same thing as you, I clicked button to create a new account and created a new account. Looks like there might be a bug that makes the button dissappear if you do that.

I wrote something to Palringo support so will try and let you know what the response it.

EDIT: I deleted the program from my iphone, and then sycronised my iphone again so it automatically re-installed from itunes, and now the button is working and its working all good. Give that a try, should work.

i just came back from traveling and the app worked like it was suppose to. was nice to chat with friends on msn etc.

the one request i have (aim or any chat app needs this feature too) is that url's be made "linkable" so you can go the site. or at least make youtube sites linkable.

Biggest issue I had was that anyone I had an Alias for I would IM them and a conversation with the title "Joe" would start. Then they'd IM me back and it'd be a NEW conversation with their Screenname "Joeman696969" (Not real names used ;) )

I've never used a chat app at all. One thing I do not understand is, can I send and receive an im to and from anyone, or do they have to be a member of a mutual chat app? In other words, can I use this to replace my text app and send and receive from verizon customers that just use sms? Also, similarly, can this be used as mms, at least for photos?

That's a good question, I'd like to know this too!

If I'm understanding you correctly yes you can use IM apps for sms.

I like it..works better than the aim app did for me. Can send photos and use gtalk!

After playing with it for a bit more, I realized this is really great to have! All that needs to be done in an update or something is include aliases and groups (not palringo groups, but the ones you can create to add specific buddies in, like in AIM, if that makes any sense... ;)).

Since I text people on their cells through AIM, it would be nice to add them to a "Text" group, and it would be especially nice if I could see "Steve SMS" instead of +13105550155 (fake name and number, of course :p)

Once that's implemented, I will be one happy dude! :D
