Just tried to install Parallels Desktop 5 trial - since it loaded up, it caused my whole machine to crawl literally to close to hanging. Windows 7 eventually booted, and Parallels Tools began to install. I waited 7 minutes, with my whole Mac just not able to function at all, and then just gave up and Force-Quitted.

I want to buy the Switch to Mac version so I can transfer my XP PC to my Mac without the original XP disks, which since it came installed, does not have full install disks, just specialized restore disks. However, the Switch to Mac is version 4.0. Does anyone know when the Switch to Mac will be updated to 5.0? Or can anyone with a Parallels contact find out and post the information here?

Well, I am in the crowd that upgraded when SL came out. I had actually been on v2 before. So, I've been waiting to see what I am offered. So far, it's nothing. Has anyone else seen anything?

The Parallels website currently says that they will have a special offer (I'm assuming $30-40 instead of $50) for those who upgraded between Aug 28 and Sept 30, 8/28 being the day SL was released, of course. So they obviously recognize that there is an issue with the way they have handled the timing of the new version versus incompatibility of old versions with SL.

A few days ago, the website provided a special email link (2upgrade @parallels.com) to ask about this special offer. Now, it has a link to "My Account" on the website. I sent an email to that address last week, no reply yet. And My Account doesn't show anything about it that I can see. It gives a little chart showing products purchased from them, and this chart has an Upgrade column, but mine says nothing.

i use vmware and am quite happy. Once they release MSN messenger for mac with VIDEO support, as cool as vmware is, i will remove it and just use mac's version.

please do not comment on there is amsn, etc... i'd rather wait for msn messenger for mac with video.

Two things. MSN for Mac sucks compared to the other ones, so use aMSN. And M$ aren't going to update MSN for Mac, the last update was in 2007. Just use a good IM program for Mac.

Did yours eventually show up under the My Account area as stated on their website, or did you need to email them?

Still hasn't shown up on the website for me. They have another page where you can send them the data, but I have to sit down and do it.

Parallels ripped me off

I upgraded and they took my money and never gave me an activation key.
I've emailed them 10 times since I upgraded November 5. Not one reply or acknowledgement of my complaints. Now I'm stuck with Parallels 5.0 loaded and it's going to expire Nov. 18th without an activation key. You can't get through to them without signing up for a costly support fee. BEWARE!

They have a 90-day money back guarantee. I don't see how that ever fits with a 1-month free upgrade window.

We got screwed when we bought a 5-pack on Sept 10th. If they aren't going to give us a free upgrade we are going to get the money back and switch to Fusion. Heck, it would actually save us money. Full versions of Fusion run $39.99 edu ($19.99 upgrade)

The only reason we upgraded to v4 was Snow Leopard compatibility. Not happy with Parallels at all.

Using VMWare Fusion 3.0 also, via Windows XP running off boot camp partition. Runs great in 10.6 in a second "space"

Login to their website and see what is shown there. Your keys, both temporary and paid-for, should be there.
