yeah boot camp + vmware fusion with an oem xp pro disc is what i set up yesterday w/ activation issues taken care of for both os and microsoft office... running windows full screen with fusion giving it its own "space" is awesome!

just make sure you install vmware tools before you activate within fusion, then restart and activate by phone.. say you only installed it on one computer, its been installed more than once, yes you upgraded the hard drive, no you did not upgrade the mother board and the machine will give you a new number

i'm using vmware fusion version 1.1rc1 build 61385, windows xp pro sp2 oem, mac os x version 10.5 leopard

Perfect, thanks a lot.

Parallels 3.0 with XP runs in Leopard but the internet connectivity no longer works for me. Not sure what happened but I can't seem to fix it, it worked fine before the OS upgrade.

I'm using Parallels 3.0. I got it virtually free after rebate from MacMall. It seems to work well, I only have one or two things I use it for though.

Parallels. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I had that problem off and on a few months ago and finally had to stop using Parallels. If I opened and closed Parallels more than three times it wouldn't connect to the net. Pissed me off.

I installed the beta for Fusion yesterday and it seems a bit sluggish compared to v10.4... though I have no hard proof of this. And hey, it's free! (beta).

the beta for vmware works just as well as it did on tiger for me. i am hoping that eventually they will enable AERO on vista. it already supports DX 9. i hope that is coming soon.

I did an archive & install for Leopard and then a clean install of Parallels Desktop 3.0. It works for the most part but I would recommend that you start with a clean install of Parallels Desktop to minimize problems (uninstall Parallels, reboot, and reinstall Parallels if you have already upgraded to Leopard). Then you should download and install the MacFUSE Leopard update (otherwise if Parallels attempts to mount Windows disks on the desktop you will encounter problems, such as the Applications menu in Parallels not working or Parallels locking up when you attempt to shutdown Windows). Windows disks no longer display on the desktop or sidebar unfortunately, so to access them you need to press command-shift-c in the Finder to display the list of all mounted disks.

I have Parallels 3.0 installed booting my bootcamp partition of my 2.2 C2D MBP. Is Fusion faster than Parallels?
Yes.

You cannot use the same windows installation for both parallels/vmware and bootcamp. It requires one each.
No, you can use Parallels and VMWare with the Boot Camp partition. Have for awhile now. Works fine, I do it myself with VMWare.

I have no faith in Parallels after all the networking issues I had with one of the updates.
We use it at work, and have nothing but problems with just that. I use VMWare at home and haven't had any issues with it. Been using it since the early betas. I have a friend who worked on it, and told me how much better it was going to be. He was right.

I just noticed that there is a beta update for Parallels Desktop which adds Leopard support.

I have Parallels 3.0 installed booting my bootcamp partition of my 2.2 C2D MBP. Is Fusion faster than Parallels?

This question doesn't have a clear yes or no answer (if someone gives a simple yes or no answer it is probably an accurate indicator of their bias for Fusion or Parallels). There are certain operations that in benchmarks have shown to be faster in Fusion (disk I/O, multiprocessing). There are also certain operations that in benchmarks have shown to be faster in Parallels (GPU operations, memory I/O). The CPU benchmark scores for a single processor in Fusion or Parallels currently are almost identical however.
