I'm exclusively using Parallels to check out web pages we develop in IE6 and IE7... not sure I'll bother with the upgrade right now...

That's a great use for it and I know several other web developers who use Parallels for that very function as well. Testing compatibility for webpages with IE is obviously crucial and having to use a second dev box or having to reboot into Windows via Boot Camp is a hassle in this type of a situation.

But yes, in your case I don't know if you need the upgrade to version 3.0. The question is, you may not need the upgrade, but do you want it? ;) :D

Is this a file mirror you setup yourself? If so did you ask permission to distribute their product? If not you shouldn't have created the mirror... nor should anyone trust what you mirror.

Don't trust it? Then don't use it!

All of this has been available with the VMWare Fusion Beta for about 2 months now, so basically you can get all this without paying for it yet.

VMWare Fusion supports DX9, bootcamp partition and USB2, it may still be in beta, but it's rock solid and at the present time it doesn't cost anything, why would anyone buy Parallels? VMWare are the market leader, there are tons of pre-built VMWare VM's being built by third parties meaning you dont have to go to the effort?

I just dont see why everyone is going on and on about parallels when it's going to get so waxed when Fusion is launched as a boxed product.

Not everybody is comfortable using beta software. Especially when it comes to running an additional operating system! :)

It's true though. Did you ask them? I'd want to know if someone was mirroring my website, especially if I was offering a piece of software.

I don't see a real problem though...there are no ads on their website...

I don't know, but they've still got Beta 4 to come...

So a while then.... ;) I'll wait until it's GA before I decide whether to migrate to it or not (due to the whole beta thing as you mentioned) but in the interim it will be Parallels 3.0 for me... Although I need a new MBP first... ;)

I think thats pretty crazy when you consider the amount of crap that's put out as release code these days. I've not had a single problem with this version of the Fusion Beta yet, and since they removed most of the debug code, it's been really snappy.

So... will this provide 3D acceleration equivalent to that on Boot Camp?

I mean, if I run say, WoW on boot camp, will I get the same fps etc. by running it now on Parralels?

No, partly because the RAM is split...

No 64-bit

Bah, it doesn't support 64-bit OS yet.

Looks like I'm waiting until 4.0. Not that it matters, I don't have an Intel Mac yet, but come October is when I make my purchase on a new Mac Pro and they better have that in there by then, or I'm going VM.

I just bought a copy of Parallels from the on-line store at Apple on Tuesday - it shipped yesterday and hasn't arrived yet. I assume it will be the older version. Can I upgrade on line after I install or should I just download the new version and do a clean install?

If I remember correctly you are entitled to a free upgrade if you purchased Parallels v2 on or after June 1.

I'm waiting until WWDC before making any decision on virtualization software. Who knows? Maybe Leopard will have something built in (other than Boot Camp).

This is a very exciting time for Intel Mac users. All these wonderful Windows on Mac solutions and they just keep getting better!
I'll sit back and await some reviews first.

I was very suspicious of this upgrade when I saw that existing users would get a lower price only if they ordered before it actually became available and before there were any reviews.

I decided then that I would just wait to find out what the 3d performance is like and eat the ten bones for actually finding out. The videos I've seen look a bit choppy.

Screw Parallels. I'm done with them. Not because I already purchased 2.blah a couple months ago. But because the "deal" they had going for upgrading was a blind faith purchase. They didn't even have a trial version.

There isn't even a standard upgrade price for previous buyers. I said it before and this basically confirms it. Parallels is run by a bunch of arrogant [beeps]. I'll never spend another dime on any of their products ever again. I'll wait for VMWare or live with the version of Parallels that I currently have.

I don't ask for it for free but you know their product ain't cheap. I would expect some sort of thank you for dropping that kind of cash on their product. But no.
