I woke up to this. And no, I didn't sleep two whole days without knowing and I did use my phone last night! Anyone else ever seen this happen or know what causes it?

It's not a huge deal; it's not like entering my passcode is a major hassle, but I just wonder if it's something I did since it's never happened before.

Yeah, I've had it a couple of times since upgrading my iPhone 6 to iOS 9. On both occasions the phone was just docked at my desk, and I had used it maybe an hour earlier at the longest.

I get it on my iPad, that I use daily, about once per week on average. I have seen this on my iPhone maybe once so far.

I got it today again on PB4 and reported it to Apple via feedback app. While the locked/black screen issue may be fixed in PB4, whatever this '48 hour timer' bug is, is still there.

This happens when an app you have installed uses its own VPN to connect to a server. This is separate from the ones you'd see listed in settings. For example, "Akinator the Genie" requires this for its servers. If you have that app installed you'd have to enter or change your password periodically.

I get that once in a while on my iPhone, not really enough to be annoying though.

So, this is disturbing, no? What apps would use VPNs without you knowing about it? And, no, I don't have any of the suspect adblockers... :)

I have two 'normal' VPN with profiles visible, etc., that I've had for many months. This (48 hour message) is a very recent thing (like, iOS 9).

If you using a work email that uses Microsoft Exchange the Exchange admin can enforce a passcode requirement and even set a expiration date on it.

Not the case here. I've had this appear several times including after loading PB4 which did seem to fix the other issue (the frozen/black screen). Be interesting to see if Apple has a response.

i've had this happen periodically since installing the first iOS 9 beta. long before installing any content blockers. if this is related to a vpn and app installs, I'd like to know which apps do this. because I didn't change anything between installing the beta and seeing this message. so if an app had it's own vpn, it was doing this on iOS 8 and this message never came up.

Exactly. I reported it to Apple via the beta feedback app, so let's see what they say.

It's only happened once on my iPad. Oddly, about the same time the OP posted.

My wife just got an iPad mini 4 and it asks her since day one. Now her iPhone 6 just started doing this today. She hasn't installed any apps on it for a while, and not sure what could be causing this. It's quite annoying.

So I can confirm that this is still happening to my phone even after updating to 9.1. Anyone else still having this issue?

I really don't mind entering my passcode (every time for that matter) but I would be concerned if this glitch in the locking protocols means that more problems can arise with the iPhone's security interface.

I like this feature if it was one... Should be required to input my password every 48 hours (and this timer would reset if I had manually inputed my password before this time period)

My issue is that I haven't been away from or had my phone off for more than 24 hours even. The way I am using my device, I should never even see this message.
