I know you probably don't care, but with all the complaining on this forum, I thought I'd comment on how much I love this little thing! It's quickly become one of my favorite pieces of Apple tech.

I'm actually surprised how much I like it. It's just a fun little device. I find that I'm even using it to listen to music when couch surfing on my iPad instead of the iPad itself. Ever since iOS 7, all of my iOS devices have a tendency to stutter on background music when doing other things like browsing the web or jumping between apps. That combined with all of the texts and emails I get, it isn't bad, but not great.

Also, I have many sleeping problems, but I refuse to take strong medication, and this little device has been extremely helpful! It's so small and light that it doesn't pull at me when I turn over or move and catch the cable. It's also so small and light that I hardly notice it's in the bed and I'm not worried about knocking it off because it won't get hurt from a 2' drop on carpet (knocking my phone off would give me a mini heart attack). I would never let myself get completely asleep with my iPhone until I put it back on the nightstand. Plus, some jerk called me at like 1am once and almost scared me off the bed. Even when silenced, if you get a call or notification with headphones in, it sounds though the headphones unless you use Do Not Disturb.

If I would have known how much I loved this little thing, I would have bought one back in 2012!
Yea glad to hear that too!

Interesting. I too use my nano for falling asleep for the same reasons. I put a few movies on it too. It's nice to be able to watch it in bed without disturbing my wife. It really is a great little device.

Honestly, I've never used it and I go to sleep at different times so I'd use the Control Center action. I get many important emails and never wanted to stop those notifications. Plus, I'm afraid it will get left on (or glitch) and I'll miss some notifications. Do alerts still appear on the lock screen when you manually turn it on?

Plus, it doesn't work when the screen is active and you are using the device I believe, but am not sure.

LOL, see, that was my initial complaint. Then I noticed that there was a setting to have it silent "always" or "only when locked". And that was after a year of using it. :p

Would there be a reason for alerts NOT to appear in the lock screen? I know that I still get banners when I'm using it...

I use my Nano every single night to listen to audiobooks & tv episodes to fall asleep.

It's perfect for that.

Where is the iPod? Going to Apple's wesbite, the menu options are Mac, iPad, iPhone, Watch, Music, Support.

I can't find the iPod anywhere.

Scroll to the bottom of the Music tab and they're tacked on at the bottom or go to Apple.com/ipod.

Not a very respectful way to treat the product that helped make them who they are today, but I suppose almost no one cares about the iPod anymore.

That has been Apple's plan. Cause and effect. Don't give customers a reason to buy one then discontinue the product and claim "lack of interest". It's like a man who killed his parents pleading with the judge for leniency because he's an orphan.

I agree completely.

Especially with the iPod touch. I mean, you keep the 2011 A5 for 3 years until the point that even an unaware user will notice that "this thing is slow" and give iPod a bad name. I looked back at some of the iPod nano thread in the archives yesterday out of interest (I hadn't started browsing this forum yet). The capacity steadily increased from 2 to 16GB from 2005 to 2009. Look at it now, it's been stuck at 16GB for 6 years despite the decreasing price of flash storage.

And even when they do update them, there's no marketing for them. If Apple actually took 10-15 minutes at a keynote to mention them and give them a decent update (4GB shuffle, 32GB nano, etc), I wonder if sales would see a slight bump?

I would love them to bring out a "farewell edition" iPod like an update classic for a short time with 128 or 256GB of SSD storage aimed at music enthusiasts. I wonder how well that would sale...

I'd bet the farm that a "farewell edition" of the iPod classic with SSD storage would be a huge seller. It might be aimed at music enthusiasts but there's probably many, many more that would buy one simply for nostalgia. Have a retro ad campaign and.... BAM!

I know I'd rush out and buy one in an instant. My library is only 12.5GB now, but I plan on growing that in years to come with some lossless too.

And the nostalgia would be great. Sadly, it's only a dream. :(

Great call on the "farewell edition"

I would LOVE a super slim modern click wheel version with wifi/bluetooth and a good DAC....pump in Apple Music app too perhaps?

I think it would be a killer device. The older I get the more I really enjoy dedicated devices (iPod/Kindle/Shuffle) that specialize in their niche and only that.

When I was 17 I thought the idea of an iPhone (a do-everything-all-in-one) device was perfect. Games, music, internet, video, who needed the hassle of individual stuff? 5 years later I realize how wrong I was. You can kill an iPhone's battery in no time flat and dedicated devices are often so much better since they only focus on one thing. And iPhone is a sub-par (but not terrible) mp3 player. The little nano with dedicated controls is far better for music, but you give up so much compared to an iPhone.

A smartphone is good enough for most people, which is why the market for dedicated devices (mp3 players, P&S cameras, radios, GPS', etc) is dying.

Me too - It's especially true when you think of the design of the interaction of the device as you mentioned with buttons or screen type (e-readers) or size/weight (no screen, super small & light iPod shuffle)

It wouldn't be an instant buy for me, it'd be something I'd wait out a bit. Have to prioritize other things.:p

I had a Pocket PC on the side, wasn't really thinking about the future. It was kinda like, COOL, this thing has RealPlayer on it! And then when I got the iPhone 2G - Why can't I put RealPlayer on this thing?!
