Yeah, whatever. A lot of their entries are bad, I mean the games just ended up on the shelf never to be replayed

Top 100 lists are always very subjective. For example I think the best burnout was Burnout 1 (or Burnout 2). The last two are not true burnout games to easy and open-plan.

Not one of the Final Fantasy games as far as I can see (they had PC versions). No Football Manager / Championship Manager I have spent months playing those games.

LEGO Star Wars 2 I think deserves a mention.

Then again I know others would disagree. :)

Oblivion was a buggy POS.

Planetside was ahead of Battlefield 2? Battlefield 2 was #47?

Duke 3d didn't make even make the top 100? Wow. Should have been top 10/20 game.

Battlefield 1942 also not in there. A revolutionary game.

too many console ports on the list that would have been better if they were pc-first designs.

My guess is that PCGamer looked at what the game offered and how it played and did not worry about its origin.

Aside from my well-treaded beef with Oblivion (good game, but neither a RPG or a PC game ;) ), I really didn't have a 'consolitis' beef too much.

But the one that REALLY cracked me up?

11. Company of Heroes Online

Haha ... never made it out of beta, now completely dead ... and it was the #11 'all time' game?

There are lot's of games in the Internet today. One of those that you should try is Doom :)

Based on the link you speak of Doom3 versus the original Doom. Doom3 was ok, but I would disagree wtih any ground breaking nature of the game. I really disliked the end game boss mechanics. Regarding the original Doom, I thought Marathon kicked it's arse. I still salivate over double shotguns. Does that make me prejudice? :)

Some of their choices were BS. :)

Deus Ex number 1?? wow

Such as Deus Ex number 1. ;) My number one choice would probably be the original Half Life.

Oh yeah if we are talking about early 3D shooters Marathon kicked Doom in almost every aspect from the dual weapons through to the fact it had a plot :)

I would differ on that one :), personally I don't think Half Life comes close to DeusEx on my personal rankings. Yeah HL is a good game but rather over hyped as the "greatest game ever". Like Final Fantasy 7 it has become a cliche when asked "what do you think are the best games ever?" to reply with HL or FF7 as those are safe. If you asked people what games they enjoyed the most anonymously I think the top 100 would be fairly different.

No problem at all! :)

I had just bought a PC to take care of my gaming needs (I've been a Mac user/gamer all along) and that game was just ...incredible... Take in consideration I have always loved shooters and adventures. The cinematic start, riding the tram into work while listening to community announcements while viewing the facility at work, then the experiment gone horribly wrong, ripping open the space time continuum, and the fun of escaping from Black Mesa while duct crawling and trudging through the bowels of the facility, expecting help, but instead getting a target placed on your back was a great gaming adventure. :D

Damn it! You are making me want to play it again!

No One Lives Forever is not on it? Really great game with excellent humor and pacing.

1. Deus Ex: Love it. I got to play it when there was a flu epidemic (chicken flu?), so it seems even more realistic. Physics could be dated now.

4. Team Fortress 2: I kick PC player arse playing on my Mac (bootcamp). Usually top 3 score in 24 player matches.

5 Half Life 2. Didn't play it when it came out. Trying to play recently but I hate the old s tyle physics.

7 Diablo 2. Pretty good.

8. Have it. Haven't play it, seems challenging.

9 Starcraft 2 . RTS is not my thing.

15 L4D: horrible when people team kill. I quit playing it.

78. Crysis. Pretty good.

97. Max Payne: good, but fairly short. Parts of it maddening hard.

Loved Max Payne, got within a minute of the Remedy QA time for the "NewYork minute mode" by the end of testing, I know I could have beaten it with a couple more runs just it was a pain as you needed to speed run the entire game without a mistake!

The hard bit you mentioned was the drug addled screaming level that was messed up and hard UNLESS you had a surround sound system. Using standard Stereo speakers it was pot luck if you guessed the correct direction.

Starcraft2 way before Starcraft1? LOL.

Not many games games have had as much an impact on the e-sport gaming scene for more than 10 years straight like Starcraft1.

Yeah, stereo was bad for that.

Headphones might work better for those who don't have surround sound. Stereo headphones work well in TF2 to pinpoint noise by turning character direction.

Update: stereo -> I meant speakers.

I used the "is it louder?" tactic along with the "spin in a circle" tactic to locate the direction I should go!

Parts of the list seem rather arbitrary. BG2 dropped 50 places from 25 to 75. Why?

I'm also of the opinion that ME1 and Morrowind trump ME2 and Oblivion. Story was better in both cases.

That list is wierd to me. I'm surprised Team Fortress 2 and Portal are higher than Counterstrike. Counterstrike was like the Street Fighter 2 of my college days. Everyone was playing that game for years, that game pretty much invented the Cybercafe.

I completely agree. Without the success of CS and CS:S online fps today would look very different, not to mention how popular they were in their day.

My personal favs:

72. Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger
51. Quake 3 (on my brand-spanking new eMac... ;) )
46. Star Wars: TIE Fighter (on my brand-spanking new 486...)
41. Doom (check this out on my new 386 - LOL...)
32. Homeworld
28. Freespace 2
24. Unreal Tournament (excuse to upgrade your PC Graphics Card :D)
23. Starsiege: Tribes (Fun! Console edition also showcased the new PS2 Ethernet Adapter!)
20. Half-Life 2: Episode 2
14. Half-Life
8. Portal
7. Diablo 2
5. Half-Life 2
4. Team Fortress 2

Where's MechWarrior?

Fun times... :)
