Look, guy. I'm a pretty diehard mac user. My first computer was a mac, every computer I have owned has been a mac. I love the osx interface and its features, and I enjoy using it way more than windows. But even such a seasoned user of osx like myself can tell you how superior windows 7 is currently to osx for gaming-- main reason being bad drivers on the osx side of things, which Apple themselves realize, and are focusing on.

Most of the market is currently controlled by M$, which means more of the games out there are available for Windoze. M$ controlled over 90% of the market (but no longer!) for quite a long time, which means the drivers are very refined.

There is nothing about the Windoze 7 OS itself that makes it better for gaming. It's the environment around Windoze that makes it seem better.

You play a game on osx and take it into window7 and you can guarantee 20more fps under same settings, it's just the nature of things. Apple chooses to limit their hardware and software configurations (drivers are major one, as they also cause a huge amounts of crashes on windows), and their limitation has resulted in a high amount of quality control-- props to apple. Anybody wanting to squeeze gaming performance for their games wouldn't like it though.

That's not the nature of "things". That's the nature of having most of the market and better drivers, which I just mentioned above.

If you think that expanding the hardware options for gaming would increase crashes on Mac OS X, then you don't know too much. Of course, you've already proven that multiple times in this post.

So far I've encountered 0 crashes on the windows side of my iMac from playing games, and I've been playing games on it for months now. So better performance, and no crashes yet. I get the best of both worlds on this iMac of mine, so there's really no reason to cause a commotion over what operating system you choose to sleep with in bed.

Wow! Really?? That's wonderful !! If you think Windoze is so great, why don't you just uninstall Mac OS X, and only run M$ products and go frolic around Redmond campus with Steve Ballmer, the dancing money man!!!!!

First of all, good show on attacking my knowledge, left me me in awe. But I'm guessing not everybody on an Apple forum is very mature. :)

Second of all, a number of people would tell you Apple chooses to limit the amount of hardware and software possibilities in their computers for reason of quality control. There was even a radio podcast posted which interviewed the Valve CEO and lead software engineer, and they noted on superior performance in windows vs better stability in OSX for their games because of the number of possibilities in hardware/software combinations in windows vs the limited amount of possibilities in osx.

But I guess if the Valve high-ups can find common ground with me on facts, that means they don't know that much themselves either?

Market share has little to do with drivers. Apple chooses only a limited amount of drivers to be compatible with OSX, reasons stated above.

LMAO.

Nice trolling!

Maybe I am a tard...

but like playing some of the games from the old Best of Windows Entertainment Pack. BOWEP was great in its day and I still fire up Fusion and play some of the games.

A number of people also told Columbus he would fall off the edge of the earth if he set sail in a particular direction.

Valve merely speculated on the possible reasons that stability was better. They said that they didn't have enough information to be sure of anything.

For some reason, there's a number of Mac Users who seem to think that adding more hardware options to the Mac will result in more software problems. The fact is that the lack of hardware configurations has nothing to do with the stability of Mac OS X over Windoze. It has to do with the fact that M$ writes crappy code… and Apple writes good code.

I'm confused about your driver comment. How does Apple choose a specific amount of drivers? For each device available on Mac, there must be one driver that is written to interface with it.

I'm just gonna be the better man and stop the pointless argument. Talking to some people is like talking to a brick wall.

Btw only very, very few people thought the earth was flat in the day of Columbus. The whole idea that majority of the population thought the world was flat is just another one of those erroneous teachings most middle and high schools tell people.

You're wrong. The world consensus at the time really was that the world was flat. That was the whole point of Columbus taking the direction that he took, so that he could prove the world was round.

You should really try and gain some knowledge before you go and argue with someone just for the sake of arguing.

No it wasn't. Columbus sailed west to find a possible alternative and faster route to the Arab and Indian settlements for trading purposes. Going all the way south of Africa, then back up again took far too long on ship.

That's true, but nobody at that time thought it was possible to go another way. They all thought there was nothing in that direction.

!

First off, it's spelt Windows, not Windoze. Okay, now that we have this settled. I'm a very hard core Mac user, I think it's by far the best overall OS out there, however, it has some real problems, especially regarding games.

It's not the enviroment around Windows 7 either, if you had any sort of technical know-how and have done your research, you would know how much better DirectX is over OpenGL, especially OpenGL's implementation in Mac OS X. DirectX pretty much allows direct access to all the hardware in your system, but, it also has several developer tools that make it easy to make optimized software.

Unfortunately, at least in it's current state, OpenGL under OS X does not allow for the best 3D rendering experience.

You're a total Mac fanboy, which would be fine, cause I am too, but see the difference between you and I, is the fact that I know when and where Windows has it's merits, as it does.

Also, I've noticed a lot of you posting games that have been ported to Mac already, I gather most of you want it Steam compatable though.

Also, I really want Counter Strike Source ported, but under CrossFire Games, it runs decently, so you can get a 30 day free fix of it if you like. Otherwise more waiting for you!

X-Com.

Not that new FPS that has nothing to do with X-Com but the name that they swiped(as an FPS, it looks good, but it has nothing in common with X-Com, so it's In Name Only), I want the original X-Com.

What bothers me is that these are available on Steam, and Steam uses DOSBox to play them... which runs on Mac. I've played X-Com on my Mac for years.

I would kill for the original X-Com on iPhone/iPad, actually. Imagine spinning that globe with your finger. But no, we'll just have another couple dozen more tower defense games instead, thanks.
