I have been telling the Misses that I want a Macbook (or MBP) for sometime now. We have always used PCs but I am sick of Windows. I have tried to explain to her all the cool things Macs can do, etc. etc.

Today while she is at work their "PC Guy" comes to FIX some of their PC's. She says something to him about me getting ready to buy a Mac in the next month or so.... Guess what happens.. He "explains" to her why it isn't a good idea to get a Mac. Tells her how PCs are better for games, photos, video, etc. etc. etc. He tells her how I should be buying a Sony Viao (sp?) or Dell XPS for what I am wanting to do.

All I want it for is iLife 08, word processing, internet, and video/podcast watching while at work. I am not a "PC Gamer." I will likely also get the .Mac service. I want A MACBOOK (or MBP). Not a Vista PC.

He tells her all sorts of stuff and now she is kinda against the Mac idea. (She will be using the computer at college soon.

Any advice?

Take her to an Apple Store to have a play with a Macbook, in ten days or more, as Leopard will then be on the machines :)

It's always amusing how peecee technicians look down on Apple. If their sorry asses would spend five minutes with OSX, which they refuse to do, they'd see they wouldn't have their jobs anymore if Apple had higher business marketshare.

Fire the PC guy.

LOL,

It is funny. She works in a law firm. They hire their PC work oustide the office (contract). These guys are there 1 to 2 times per week "fixing" something in the office. All office computers are Windows XP machines. They are constantly having network issues or PC crashes or something.

Actually, I think todays visit was because they bought 2 NEW PCs.

Even better idea

Take her to a store BEFORE leopard, and when she's completly amazed by tiger, almost as a passing comment say

"And in [XXX Amount of days time] days time, it'll be getting even better"

She'll beg you to buy one right there and then

Exactly. Windows techs make no sense.

he's a pc guy what do you expect
he probably has a mac at home though

you're stuffed. if your missus is going to be using the new computer for college and someone has convinced her that a macbook is no good, then you haven't got a hope unless you produce someone with enough professional credibility to overrule the pc guy. because right now it's you, a layman, versus a professional.

Seriously, who is the tech savvy person in this relationship?
If you're it, just buy it. My gf would never dare to tell me what tech stuff I should or shouldn't buy. That would be like us telling them which pan to buy. :D

the pc guy as far as the missus is concerned.

Then something is seriously messed up there. He should just grow some balls and buy it. It is a laptop for christ's sake, not a car or a house.
I have never understood how men let women dictate what to buy and what not to buy, when it is reasonable.

if it were just for him, maybe he could just buy it (but i still think it's a major purchase and it would be best if his wife approved). but he said she will be using it in college. so it's got to be a joint decision. and she has been told by a so called professional that a mac isn't the correct choice.

its clearly in his and his wifes karmic pathway to experience a pc for alittle while longer! .... let the natural law of suffering commence! they clearly have yet to see the light!

the mac will then be the equivalent to enlightenment when they finally get one!

According to him the tech said it is not a good choice for HIM not for her.
Anyway, just buy the wife a cheap $500 Dell Notebook and get the MB for yourself. :D

Or ask her who she trusts more, you or some random man in her office...

Obviously the reason they are having soo many problems with the PCs at the office is that they aren't using them solely for games, internet porn photos and video, etc. on them.

Why get a Mac which suck at games, internet porn photos and videos, and is a machines made for finishing actual work on with the least hassle.

Have an affair. That will learn her. ;) :D

Seriously, if (and only if) ...

- You will be the primary user
- You will be responsible for your own maintenance / upkeep of your computer
- You will not need to integrate this computer with her work resources
- There are no things you do jointly that are game killers because you can't use the same system on her PC and your Mac
- Money is not an issue

Then she really ought to respect your decision. I'd say the same thing if you were the woman and your husband told you to get a Mac when you wanted a VAIO. For that matter, I'd say the same thing if this were about handbags. And ain't nobody better tell me which shoe designer to buy from. :D
