Did you let that family save money? No

Why are you posting threads about PC World being a joke when your in the 'wrong' as well.

Im sure everyone knows what a joke PC World is.

Nothing personal against you, but posting something like this while you could have done something is stupid.

:D

Maybe I misread your posts, did you stop them buying it for accidental damage or not. If you did/tried then I'm completely in the wrong and Wholeheartedly apologise!:eek:

No I don't work for PC World, I would never shop there yet alone work there :D

was in there today, just bored and playing with some games on their ipads before i bought them myself, over comes mr smarmy salesman...

i say im ok thanks so he moves onto the next victim, a couple buying an ipad for their son probably aged around 11-12 the young lad was so desperate for an ipad he'd agree to anything!

they want a 16gb one so the chap is pushing them toward the 32gb or 64gb.... fair enough id always say get as much storage as possible!

but i think they were out of stock of those so the mum asks him if they could upgrade the memory themselves in the future to which the chap says, "yeah, apple will probably release a chip to put in it" the boy asks if it has a webcam and can make calls to which "yeah apple will probably add that soon"....

i mean this is a joke, theres pushing a sale and down right lying to people..... knowing full well this poor little chap wants it so much theyll sucker into anything!!

also he pushed and pushed and pushed apple care, repeatedly saying if he drops it and smashes screen they'll replace it..... thats not right is it??? i thought no apple care covers accidental damage???

their a disgrace IMO

rant over

Tbh you should have manned up and said something. They were let down by an ill informed sales person and you!

sorry if i wasnt clear, i set him straight on the accidental cover and that rubbish, i also corrected him on the expanding memory.

what i didnt do was go on about webcams/calling and other features etc as i felt like i was ruining it for the young lad who looked so excited to get one.

i wondered where you were coming from with what you were saying:eek:! lets start again :D

ive highlighted where i said i spoke to the dad now to try and clear it up a bit

lmao at the numbnuts blaming OP for PC world salesmen giving out misleading advice.. only on the internet :D

I was wrong in this case but if somebody is giving clearly misleading advice and you are aware of it, it should be your moral responsibility to inform them that they are incorrect.

No it isn't. You can get your face slapped for interfering in someone else's affairs. Not everyone takes kindly to some smartass know it all coming over and giving it all that.

In the UK we have no duty of easy rescue by law. That means that you're not legally obliged to rescue someone in trouble, even if they would die, and you could easily save them, such as by opening a door from the other side for example.

Now if there's no duty to save someone's life, there's certainly not a duty to interfere with someone's shopping experience whether your intentions are good or not.

So the law isn't prescribing this sort of behaviour - that leaves you with your personal morality. And that's personal, not shared.

John Lewis tax is hilarious..

They will price match other brick and mortar retailers, so the 'tax' as you put it isn't there.

Where possible I buy my electronic goods from John Lewis. Sadly they didn't stock my choice of MacMini last year so I went with Apple direct.

In fairness, they were probably pushing their own extended warranty which usually does cover accidental damage. But, it's an insurance policy so it might not be as straight forward to claim as they say..

EDIT: this post was sat here for a while and in the meantime, the OP confirmed it was apple care they were selling. Although he might have been selling an enhanced version;)

Oh the tax is definitely there, you can only avoid it if you spend time shopping around and price comparing and then calling them up on it.

Which a lot of people don't do, they just want to go out for the day, have a look around and buy some stuff.

The kids who work in these shops need training on the products they are selling. Simple as that.
I purchased my iPad from Currys, first time I’ve bought anything in there for years and this was only due to lack of stock in my nearest apple store.
The staff had a serious lack of knowledge on the iPad, around the iPad desk were 3 staff members trying to sell to people who looked like they couldn’t afford a coffee let alone an iPad... It was like watching a bunch of idiots. Horrible experience which only lasted 5 minutes as I just needed to buy one, no demo, no talking about it, just punch it in the till.
PC World/Currys/Comet... not for me.

Bottom line is that if you know what you want and have the knowledge yourself then pc world is fine. I got my iPad from pcworld in Warrington, staff were friendly, offered AppleCare which I refused. The whole experience was fine.
On the other hand if you are your average punter then you are going to be in the same position as you would be if you know nothing about cars and go to a used car sales outfit!

I bought a 16GB wifi iPad at PC World today. They had a specific apple section and one 'Apple' person who seemed reasonably knowledgable. When I declined AppleCare he didn't push the issue. He also mentioned that they weren't allowed by apple to sell their own cover which would have covered accidental damage.

Anyway, I'll be planning to get the memory upgrade later this year.

(just kidding about the last bit!)

I worked in PCW for 3 years, and one of the most knowledgeable members of staff in there. Now im not trying to deny that what you had wasnt a lack of experience, and I havent worked there since the Ipad was released, however, I do know that it was Apples responsibility to give the staff members training on the products, and in my particular store, only 2 members (we were one of the bigger ones, got the training, and they, along with I believe 1 other person, was allowed to sell them. Im sure if you had gone up to a manager and told him the situation you had witnessed they would have taken it very seriously.

At the end of the day (At least in my store), every single member of staff tried their best, and in the event of not knowing a question, they would ask for someone with more experience for help who could answer the question. Agreed, there are some stores (especially around london) who are useless, and obviously I can only comment for my store.

I know this is going to sound awful, but the majority of people who would come in would want a laptop because it was A. pretty or B. had a nice screen or keyboard or something they liked, or C had a very basic requirement for it. Very rarely did we get any customers who needed something advance. Obviously in this case that was the issue, yet the staff member was just trying to make a sale (I don't know why he was so desperate, targets etc aren't based around the amount you sell). In the case that a staff member doesnt know about an item (which lets be honest, it does happen with 6,000+ items in the store) they are always told, and in my store always do, get a member of staff who is an expert in that area. I can happily say I know nothing about DSLRs, yet alot about computers/macs and TVs, so if a customer asked me for help on DSLRs, I would be honest with them and say i know nothing about them, but always got them someone who did.

To be fair to PCW, its not the shop where you expect everyone who works there to be PC engineers obviously, but what you heard (in my store anyway) wasnt the common thing, I dont know about others. If you had told the manager about that case in particular, depending on how senior the staff member was, he could have faced a disciplinary hearing.

And Please don't abuse me because I worked there lol. :)
