Apple doesn't have security measures in the OS because in general Apple users feel like they deserve the money for the best OS available.

RAM on new iMAC

mine just shipped, I changed my order taking out the upgraded ram so that I can buy my own and install it. Can anyone tell me which ram specifically to buy, I dont want to screw this one up. Also, is it worth it to buy a 2GB card? and run 1x1GB and 1x2GB?

720p Can easily be displayed even on crappy integrated graphics like in the AppleTV. Someone at Somethingawful.com played a 720p video in VLC on their Apple TV.

If you can play 720p on an AppleTV, I expect, even with this crappy 2600 Pro, the iMac should be able to do 1980p.

PC World have reviewed the 24" version of the new iMac and seem pretty impressed with it, especially the design which they say:

"...dispenses with the previous version's glossy kitsch in favor of glossy elegance..."

Although they do say that the Mighty Mouse now looks out of place with the aluminium keyboard and case.

It performs pretty well, with them saying that it's only:

"about 20 percent behind the average power desktop"

They also tested out the graphics card with Doom 3 and Far Cry, giving the following results at 1280 x 1024:

Doom 3 : 92fps
Doom 3 (Antialiasing On) : 47fps

Far Cry : 86fps
Far Cry (Antialiasing On) : 41fps

They cited the results as "average". They also said it was a pity there was no Blu-ray option considering the system is powerful enough to decode high definition video. Finally, they recommended waiting for October before buying so that Leopard would be included.

17" 2.4GHz 256MB version:
"In games it achieved a blazing frame rate of 141 frames per second in Far Cry (with antialiasing turned off)." no mention about res.

Weird that the MBP got so low ut2004 scores, also it was 256MB version. I want to know how crappy 128MB is for modern games :(
