PdaNet 1.51 is AWESOME!!!

So PdaNet 1.50 is out. I decided to go ahead and spend the $30.00 for the full license. Seems pretty stable and now offers tether via USB on Windows. I hope they add this feature for mac too.

damn, dont know where you got that, my cydia still only shows 1.42 and about a couple weeks ago it quit working for me...

...so I got iModem, which is stable thus far, but doesnt support my torrent program, Transmission. Does anyone know how to get transmission to work on iModem, or perhaps suggest a new torrent program. THX.
 
Has anyone managed to get the USB working? Vista gets assigned an IP of 169.254.111.112 but can't ping 169.254.111.111 which would be the iPhone IP. The default gateway is set to 0.0.0.0 and internet connectivity doesn't function.
 
I couldn't figure out how to create an ad-hoc on my windows pc so I tried the usb option. I'm currently writing this post on my laptop tethered via usb to my first gen iphone v 2.2.

Yeah, it is the best program for tethering the iPhone in my opinion
 
is it normal to load slower via tether?

Yea I know edge isn't great but sites take longer to load on my laptop than on the iphone.

...in fact since pdanet runs in the background I can load both simultaneously on the same connection and it does take longer...I'd guess 50-100% longer
 
I think your probably loading more graphics or the content could be different when loading on the computer. I am not sure why yours is doing this but...

I booted XP up under bootcamp and installed the PdaNet Desktop to allow tethering via the USB cable and guys it is awesome on the 3G!!!

Not only was it faster, the data rates then on the OSX side, it did not heat up the phone nearly as much.

I downloaded 183 MB of windows update files in 22 min while charging the battery the WHOLE time!!!! Awesome. My battery went from 83% to 96% the time I was tethered via the USB cable and downloading 183 MB!!! God I hope they release a cable solution on the OSX side. It really is the answer. Fantastic.

Oh yeah, PDAnet is the sh-t.

I gladly plunked down the $30 and never regretted it one bit. I'm not sitting around waiting for AT&T's "Official" tethering package, PDAnet does it, and does it right. The USB tether is a nice add-on, hope they make the Desktop app for Mac as well eventually to give us OS X'ers that option.
 
I wrote to them and got a response back that they are working on a USB solution for OSX. This is a must to avoid the battery drain problem with large downloads. It is also much more consistent of a connection. As I said, I downloaded 183 megs and charged my battery from 83% to 96% via the USB on XP. It also did not heat up nearly as much over the USB.
 
Its very stable with USB. I'm on XP. Consistent connections too. Never repented buying this app.

The problem was actually with DNS lookups. This has been fixed in version 1.51
 
I'm waiting to pull the trigger on an iPhone, primarily over this EXACT issue. Any insight as to when the tether via USB to OSX will be available? Paying a one time charge of $30 would be much better than buying a Storm and tethering for $30/month on Verizon.

What advantage do you think you will get via USB rather than the normal adhoc way that PdaNet uses?:confused:
 
Little side not for Tmobile Germany Customers... you can just get a clone of your sim card for nabout 30€ one time charge) and then get any 3g data Usb stick (web and walk stick) and you can surf using your iPhone data plan , without any monthly charge!!! (thats what I did! ) :D


Also PdaNet is good if you forgott your data card... but it won'T work with SSL, i do allot of mobile banking... so that doesent work for me! its still cool to trick some teachers ;) ( I also modded my 3g Stick to look like a Usb-Data stick) :D

Also Works with Paralles! but well,,,,... this is not helping with battery life :D

The rep did not give me a time frame. Months would be my guess. Tethering over a user created ad hoc works fine just not quite as great as the USB cable solution.
 
Love to be an early adapter, but tethering using iPhone is in the grey area, especially given the rumor of official AT&T tethering soon to be available.

$30 down the drain in matter of weeks or few months?

Tethering has been available for a long while now. PdaNet on the iPhone has not, but I was tethering over a year ago on the first generation. I honestly use it mostly for minor downloading, and in places where I can't get wifi. Works excellent. Not the ideal solution for major downloading but believe me the cap of 5 GB a month is on those who pay the extra $60.00 for a net card. I'm sure as heck not going to pay $30.00 bucks a month extra for a tethering solution through iTunes if AT&T comes out with a plan. It's not going to be free that's fire sure.

Although this might be true, the possibility of this becoming a reality is slim to none. Remember PDAnet has been around for a long time and to date, all their tethering solutions have worked rock solid.

Now on the other hand, itunes can be modified to stop internet passage through itunes, well who knows. we'll have to wait and see.
