Does this mean that Pelaton are now free to sell your health data to whoever wants it?

Not exactly a plan that worked out well for Fitbit long term.
No - that’s covered in their privacy policy. That doesn’t change by dropping GymKit.

Though I don’t know what you agree to with their privacy policy - just saying it wouldn’t change with GymKit support.

Here’s their privacy policy on fitness data.

Peloton will not disclose, redisclose, or otherwise disseminate Fitness Data unless:

  • Authorized by you or your authorized representative; for example, if you pair a third party fitness tracker to your Peloton device, you are authorizing the disclosure of your Fitness Data to the third party device;
  • In aggregated and anonymized formats to assist us and our service providers, vendors or partners in providing services to you;
  • Required pursuant to a valid warrant or subpoena issued by a court of competent jurisdiction; or
  • As required under applicable law, necessary for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims of wherever courts are acting in their judicial capacity.

I don’t know what gym you’re visiting, but both Lifetime Fitness and Planet Fitness have equipment that I use and sync with my Apple Watch with a simple tap. If your gym isn’t offering the equipment, it might be time for some constructive feedback or a new gym.
I never mentioned my gym in my post! I’m talking about continued development and advertising of the feature.

I wonder if it was less “Apple forgot” and more “Apple received very negative - but private - feedback from manufacturers/the industry” and gave up.
Perhaps the associated fees (which Apple asked for) of implementing the feature was not worth the investment to many equipment makers.

Just like App Clips. I am surprised this was not used more during the pandemic.
App Clips was suuuch a cool idea. One time I tried to rent a scooter, and was fully expecting the App Clip function and paying with Apple Pay, but was surprised that I had to download the whole app for it and set up account etc etc.

Decision was just reversed based on an email just sent out

I was writing support last night and really let them know how upset I was. I can imagine all the people calling to cancel and complain got to them! Good - hopefully they won't make a bone-headed move like this again. It was a TERRIBLE way to treat their customers.

I wish GM would do the same, listen to their customers and continue to implement CarPlay on all their vehicles.
