There is no difference between the US and UK versions, the US one has an AT&T Sim in it and that is all, the UK one won't have a Sim most likely, you need to source it yourself.

Bandwidth wise. American iPhones should work in UK like iPrids.

There is no difference /.../.

Sir, I do not know you, but the pleasure cortex of my brain is telling me to trust you. Also, to back you up, it appears that the iPad is quad-band, including the 2100mhz band used for european 3g networks. Sourcing friendly Statesians at this very moment. Thank you!

I hope oilily doesn't mind me quoting him, this is what causes me to feel hesitant about buying the 3G. Unless the salesman was putting him off for a reason!

I had ordered a 3g version via bundlebox paying apple direct on a uk debit card no problem

but

I have been categorically told that the USA version is different and will not work here.

I would be interested to hear others responses from apple about this. But the sales guy was adamant. And he went off to check with the tech support person.

I cancelled my order, then waited 10 days for apple to take the authorization off those funds. Equated to£ 511. For 32g 3g

I am no way taking the risk on thus 3g USA version.
At least not until someone more technical from apple confirms in black and white that the 3g version works here

He said ( and I have his email addy and name). That the DEVICES were different.

This needs clairification from apple USA. Anyone got a
a tech support number?

im 100% sure the iPad 3G will work over here as the iPhone 1G worked fine :)

Well I've decided to sell my iPad when I'm in the UK next week. No import duty as it's clearly my own personal piece of kit. When I get back to NYC I'll buy me another.

Unfortunately no good for shipping only if you have it in person!
When they work out VAT it is just the product price, they do not include Taxes and Shipping from the other side :) so you could be lucky with no VAT if on the day the USD to GBP conversion rate makes the 16GB £390 or under, even a penny above and you get whacked with full VAT :(

Well it's sitting around £323 just now for $ 499 so I don't see it ever going above £390.

Yea noticed that. Shame the 32GB Wifi is just out of that then!

Um really wondering what to do now! I will get an iPad 100% but just wondering whether to spend the extra to get it early or not... stupid Apple :)

About what mine cost and delivered in 48 hours! :)

You try flying from the US to the UK with your Ipad, impossible for £98. :p

Can you explain how you got yours back?

And true it would be a crappy flight for £98 lol

Oddly, the sticker on the back of the box says

"IPAD WI-FI 32GB-USA"

Just checked my imported iPhone 3gs and that doesn't have a country listed
odd.

import duty and importing ipad to UK

Duty is not charged if either:
• the total value of the goods (not including shipping charges or insurance) does not exceed £135
• or the amount of duty payable on any given item, does not exceed £9.

Neither duty nor VAT is payable if the total value of the goods (not including shipping charges or insurance) does not exceed £18 (€22, or equivalent in local currency).

So usually, import VAT has to be added to iPads and electronics.

you can check out this free website for more calculations http://www.dutycalculator.com

hope this helps. :)
