I had to make a new thread, first let me say look at the original iPod thread, people are complaining about server support or something completely unrelated to the product...

the stuff some people are listing is total BS crap i dont need stuffed onto a nice sleek device.. keep in mind the 3 grand minicomputers failed, and failed hard.

USB = who cares

camera = my phone? it has a 30-pin converter too if u need that

flash = im done with flash forever

multi-tasking = click on internet, click on Pages, click on internet, i cant read more than one at a time unless the screen is like 29"... god do you seriously need a pad like object to multitask

cant take notes = it has a freaking keyboard, the evolution from the stylus, a literally cave-man tool (the finger or a bone), i prefer keyboards as well, they are much less tiring when taking down screen after screen of powerpoint

It has all the apps i could need, and guess what bro, i wouldnt use this thing as a personal map or something.. its a table-like device... plus someone might just snatch it of your hand while you search for god knows what with something that bulky.. where do you people live, starbucksland?

I wouldnt use this on a vacation, its for on the go, not for travel..

the more i read what people say i realize they are totally clueless, just read the original iPod release thread, 3rd post is some guy saying enough toys fix some dumb server thing.. people here live in starbucksland all day or something seriously

^^^^ when things calm down, this is a great place to hang....

OP too long.

My thoughts: The iPad isn't a total fail. I'm just kind of.... meh about it.

I'm underwhelmed.

That's pretty narrow minded. Just because it's appears to be the right device for you doesn't mean others agree with this. I'll probably get one because I love toys and can afford it. But by no means is it a replacement for a full computer. Yes, I realize that Apple never promised this, but that doesn't change people's mind on it. I have a Touch and a laptop. I can't use an iPad in a lot of places due to it's size. It's not a full laptop so I can't use it in place of that. It's an overlap device that I don't really need, but can definitely see having fun with. For some, that is clearly a fail. Why does it bother you that people have a different opinion than you do?

yeah I am meh about it as well...

i tried to cover my bases only reason it isnt just a quick thought.. i sort of want one for class but its a bit on the pricey side. I never take my laptop to school though, its just too bulky IMO

I "think" you perhaps ms-applied the word "think" in your thread title, and that is the basis for the whole situation.

The fact of the matter is that this IS an amazing device. People have just been spoiled by the iPhone and iPod Touch. If those two things didn't exist, people would be worshipping the iPad as their new god.

It has all the apps i could need

Really?? It has Microsoft Office? It has Photoshop and Illustrator? It has iLife and Toast? Wow, I guess I really missed something today then. That means you either have $500 to blow on a cool toy, or are you someone who doesn't actually do anything productive with a computer? Sorry, but I fail to see where this product fits a need that I (and I would bet most computer users) have. I've got my Macintosh and iPod Touch. Pretty sure that covers all my bases. There's really nothing the iPad can do that these devices don't already exceed at.

^^^^ Dude, you're a little angry....... he said it has all the apps that HE could need. Chill.

This I can agree with.

It's a cool toy that I don't need but will probably get because I like toys.

Maybe I'll wait until the 2nd generation though..... I'm still having fun with my new MBP and my 3GS.....

Another good point.

Wow, an iPad thread with good points...... Sticky time?;)

Uhm, first it has a customized iWork.. Office doesnt even work on my damn laptop, the 2008 version STILL couldnt even put text in the middle or left (it was broken) when I replaced my laptop in '09...

iLife, i dont need this on a notepad

Toast? i dont need this on a notepad, isnt that a cd burning thing?

nothing productive, this is cut+copy the 'fix your servers before you release mp3 toys' from the iPod release

ur in the wrong forum, looking for the wrong apps on the wrong device..

macbook forums are that way ->

(edit: did people just want a laptop? lol, just get a laptop then)

Im bored, so Ill bite.

USB = who cares

A good number of people, hence the ubiquity.

camera = my phone? it has a 30-pin converter too if u need that

true

flash = im done with flash forever
sadly, the internet hasn't gotten the memo. See steve's keynote or proof of this (he seriously couldn't have chosen 3 websites that didn't have flash? Did he write his keynote 10 minutes before?)

multi-tasking = click on internet, click on Pages, click on internet, i cant read more than one at a time unless the screen is like 29"... god do you seriously need a pad like object to multitask

Yeah. Yeah you do. Its supposed to be better than a netbook. Let me guess, your laptop doesnt need it either?

cant take notes = it has a freaking keyboard, the evolution from the stylus, a literally cave-man tool (the finger or a bone), i prefer keyboards as well, they are much less tiring when taking down screen after screen of powerpoint You know why you prefer keyboards? Because they are tactile. THAT is not a keyboard.

Good thing most of them don't have GPS so we don't have to worry about that

I wouldnt use this on a vacation, its for on the go, not for travel..
So when you travel, you are not on the go?

the more i read what people say i realize they are totally clueless, just read the original iPod release thread, 3rd post is some guy saying enough toys fix some dumb server thing.. people here live in starbucksland all day or something seriously

Riiiight.

Did someone try to tell you that a $500 tablet was going to do everything you ever needed on a computer?

Not sure who told you that.

I have no problem with the touch keyboard, i dont need a tactile one.

Im done with flash ads and crappy flash everything, i have no need..

what do you need gps for on a freaking notepad

even tho I have multitasking on my laptop, its only one screen at a time, internet, music, pages... it saves everything you do, so it doesnt affect me

going to class to take notes and going to hawaii for family vacation are two different types of travel..

people are expecting a laptop on a notepad.. just get an air they made that already

multi-tasking is important for anyone who would use it for work/study related areas.
It is also useful for day-to-day casual things. music+web ect

In the end, what exactly does a device like this serve? too big to be a walkman-like device. Doesn't have the functionality of a PC/MAC to make it a small lightweight computer replacement. It's media handling abilities are dismal.

people feel as if tech should be one size fits all and they do not understand that sometimes companies want to appeal to a certain demo.

The iPad is Apples answer to the netbook it's cheap, portable, easy to use, for web browsing, casual gaming , and taking notes. A lot more people then you think fits into that category and they will buy it. If that is not you stop crying that it doesn't run crysis have firewire , 3 cameras, hd radio, etc.

im 100% sure music will run in the background, and it saves everything when you click from music to web.. i dont understand how you need both running simultaneously

tap, Wiki

tap, Pages

tap, change album

tap, back to thing

Where does i need itunes running and wiki as a 2x2" screen while i have pages, and im burning a CD in toast or something (i lol'd at that one) fit in?

like i said its the iPad, not the iDontneedanythingelseexceptforthisonegoddevicethatdoesall

This is because you lack the imagination to understand that most people are not like you. If you need to use Photoshop and Illustrator when you are on the go, then you are not like most people (who probably aren't even aware of the existence of Illustrator).

The iPad is fine for its intended audience, which is not you. Do you take it as a personal slight because Apple designed a product for the average user and not for you?

You just proved my point. People will just buy a laptop instead. I'm not denying iPad is cool device, but cool alone doesn't necessarily sell. The G4 Cube was cool, and the Newton was cool, but that wasn't enough for them to be successful products. Somehow I just don't see this thing being a longtime success in its current state. Its got to be more than just a big iPod Touch to make it a worth more the the everyday user.

Your right a tablet is a horrible idea for a artist or designer to use.

This device is designed for the regular user, not for niche markets. Your objection has no merit.

This is not a "pro" tablet. The likely reason is that there is no real money in making a tablet for the professional market, at least not right now.

Get over it.

So this is marketed toward novices that hate computers but have $500 bucks to burn? Face it those people buy Dells. The only people buying this thing is people who either really want a e-reader or people who just buy anything with a apple logo on it ie: the same people who bought the :apple:tv

I'm pretty certain that before long the app store will be full of things to make this fit everyones needs (I can see a photoshop app for example)

if you look at the iPhone without the app store it's just another smartphone. The app store opened it up and made it what it is now

BTW I bought an appletv. Not because it has an apple logo but because it fitted a need I had. People who buy the ipad will do the same.

There are already some basic image editing apps in the App Store.

I think that the iPhone would still be much, much more than another smartphone without the App Store. I use the original Apple Apps more than any of the ones I got in the App Store......

well Im not a novice, and I appreciate a octopus-core or w/e Pro (that was a joke), but this is way better than my laptop for notes and other simple things.. my laptop is just too heavy and bulky to actually take to class.. sure its super portable, but to actually take to class is a whole other thing

that doesnt mean i hate my laptop..

a notepad device is not a stand alone... seriously..

i really like it but at $500 its a bit pricey for just taking notes in class..

reading these comments, i really would not use the opinion of anyone who doesnt like it as I have seen zero valid arguments.. extensive photoshop and manipulation etc.. no thanks, Toast? i have a computer thanks... flash, i hate flash..

people complain about multi-tasking, but no one has adressed that u still have one window on your screen at a time, which this does, just click to the app
