As I mentioned a few day ago, I was looking for a suitable cover and bag for my new 13" macbook, after reading posts here I decided to go for the STM sleeve and 'small alley' bag.

I actually ordered the 14" ibook sleeve as I was sure that the 12" ibook sleeve would be just too small, as it happens the 14" ibook sleeve is almost perfect! there is a little spare room which makes it a little bit 'baggy' but it's close enough for me!

The quality of the sleeve is very good, quite a thick black neoprene with a soft grey interior, but not fluffy. The zip also feels sturdy and is very smooth with a protection 'flap' to stop it from damaging the mac.

As for the STM small alley, well it's perfect if you want a very compact good looking case for your macbook! I have the 'carbon' colour but in certain lights it looks slightly greenish.
As you can tell from the attached images it's only just big enough, its actually about half the size of my previous laptop bag I was using and is very light.

Once again the overall quality is excellent, everything feels well made and has a nice feel about it, the only slightly poor design feature is the carrying handle (not the main strap) which would have better if the webbing was a bit thicker, although I won't use it anyway.

There are a number of small sections for pens, documents and cd/dvd's etc, although there is very little room for anything else so if you like to carry lots of gear around this isn't the bag for you!

I can just manage to get my macbook (of course) in it's sleeve into it's main compartment, and then a couple of pens, my mac remote, some blank discs and the power adapter/charger in it, although to stop it from bulging out too much I put my mouse (radtech bt510) in the small pouch attached to the strap, it only just fits so I doubt that a full size mouse would fit in.

I live in the UK and got the sleeve from cancom for £15.99 :

and the bag from expansys for £27.59 inc vat and postage:

I hope this helps others who are searching for a sleeve/bag for their macbook!

PS the BT510 bluetooth mouse is also very good, although the cursor can be a little jumpy at times, even with radtechs new driver, however it works fine with winXP so it must not like OSX as much? it cost me approx £35

Nice but just don't drop it. Personally I went for a Brenthaven and am glad I did. All that protection has saved my 12" PB several times. The best part, if I decide to upgrade to a 15" MBP it will fit just as well because of the special core inner.

But really, I know how hard it is to make a decision about which computer bag to buy. Glad to see your happy with it.

Is the bag not padded well enough? Is buying a sleeve necessary?

I was originally thinking I could just use the sleeve with my existing case, or if I wanted to travel VERY light I could just carry my MB in it's sleeve, I can also use the sleeve as a heat barrier underneath the MB when it's on my lap!

It also means it is even better protected when it's in the bag as well, I must admit, I wouldn't like to drop the bag with my MB inside (obviously) but you never know!, to be honest I think no matter what bag/case you have, if it was dropped badly enough it would damage the macbook/laptop anyway.

that is a nice bag. I just bought a "swiss(army knife company)" bag.I should have looked at yours first. Mine is a little to big.

Well I actually saw it on these forums! that's what made me interested, I did have my doubts as to whether my MB would fit, as it's really designed for 12" laptops, but the STM website says it will fit and it does!

For me it's the perfect bag, as I've said there's very little room for anything else, but then it's about half the size of the average laptop bag and looks better than most, it's not even expensive ;)

I did look at some of the waterfield bags but they were a bit pricey.

One other thing I forgot to mention, the shoulder strap has a very wide soft pad which has a kind of non-slip finish which makes it very comfortable to wear. My old bag had a crappy plastic/rubber 'pad' which wasn't actually padded  , it used to slide off my shoulders quite alot, it's not even as if I have 'girly slopey' shoulders either :D

regre7, the point I was trying to make is that no matter what bag you have there's always a good possibility that the laptop would get damaged, it's just a case of minimising the risk in as practical way as possible and for me this bag does that.

i think we have moved on from the days when warnings were needed for image posts.

Peruvian do you have pics we could see if at all possible of the thickness and such? is the inside soft to prevent scratches? Is there protection from the zipper on the inside?

Peruvian, does this guy have an agreement with apple to allow use of their logo? Cause that's pretty cheap for something with an apple trademark license.

so maybe i'm just cynical... but you don't happen to work for STM by any chance?

as a wise man once said - "i dont buy it."

EDIT: I mean really, who gets THAT excited about bags - 3 posts worth

..and yet someone else could be THAT bothered to read a thread about something and yet appear to have LITTLE to NO interest in the topic AND write a REPLY using CAPITAL letters to try and emphasise their feelings

I'm also amazed that a post by a member of the forums, written as a genuine attempt to help other people who share a similar interest would provoke such a cynical reply, as you seem to think my original post/s were too much then I'm sure you barely comprehend this post and it's attachments.

Sorry I seemed to have misplaced the receipt for the ibook sleeve, but I hope your trust in human nature has been restored.

I just got one of these cases from ebay... Shipped from hong kong, it took 5 days to get here and I have to say it fits like a glove...
Heres a link to it....

Sweet !! I got ordered the exact same one out of the blue a few days ago, I had read all the threads here about it, and I couldn't really find a nice one that really fitted my needs, so I looked for one on eBay, and ordered this one immediatly. It hasn't arrived yet, but it should be here next week.
I'm glad you're content with it.

What I most like about it is that the price of the product is 9,50 euros, and the price of the shipping 9,50 euros, too, and it's still cheaper than any other one i've seen withouth the shipping costs. I think it even ships faster, too.

One last question: they say it is Shock proof, can you confirm that? I do tend to use my electronic equipment quite a lot and often on the road, so that would be swell.

I'm with you on the STM bags, they fit perfect!

Awesome post! :D I really enjoy STM's products as well. I just bought the STM Loop backpack for my MB, but I'm still sort of stuck on the sleeves. I talked to their customer support people and they told me that the Rebound and Glove sleeves will be available for the MB around the second week of July. For now, I've got a Bitolithic sleeve to hold me over, but I never thought of trying the 14" iBook sleeves...Anyone have an idea of whether the 14" iBook Rebound sleeve would fit similar to Johnnie's Glove sleeve? If so, I don't think I would mind the loose-ish fit.

Johnnie:
Does the MB slide around in the Glove? How much room would you estimate is left over on the sides of the MB when it's zipped up? An inch or two? Half an inch?

Thanks for the great review!

You've obviously never found the perfect bag. It's a wonderful thing when you do and worthy of many posts.
