Hello all,

I just received my first mac this week, a Macbook Pro. And it is awesome! I have had no issues at all, the screen is gorgeous and everything works the way it should. currently, I'm typing with the computer on my bare lap and my computer is running at 38 degrees with the fans at 1999-rpm, and i can't even hear them.. So no thermal paste issues here i guess, In idle it can reach as low as 32 degrees. I haven't seen any screen flickering or yellow tint either, and I couldn't be happier... (Samsung screen)... So, anyone wanting to buy a Macbook pro, I can highly recommend it...

Just wanted to share m experiences with everyone, since I myself, almost didn't buy a MBP in fear of issues that the model has experienced. Also thanks to everyone who posted satisfied comments about their machines.

not everyone has problems with there computers, but none the less, its always good to hear the good side of things.

nice machine you got, and have fun with it!
 
So great to hear more praise for the SR MBP's. Was starting to make me depressed. Kudos to Apple as always, and enjoy your machine!

What program are you running to measure your macbook pro's temperature? What temperature range is considered normal and what is considered dangerous?

What is Quicksilver?

haha, im such a mac n00b... dont blame me, got my first mac (mbp 2.4) on wednesday.

I use SMCfancontrol to monitor temps and rpms, i would consider anything in the 40's normal temps for me when typing, but depends what else is running in the background... Right now I am running a DVD installing burning crusade, downloading a program via azureus, so the harddisk is spinning constantly and I'm surfing the web while at the same time, I'm charging, and my temps are around 58-64(60 mostly). So I'm very happy compared to others who have temps around 66 when idle...

Quicksilver is a app launcher, but you can use it for many other things, like archiving a file.. It's built up so you don't have to click around in the finder but you just type what you want...

I'll answer any questions you have, whenever i have time... so just keep asking :p
 
a note on idle MBP temps... they vary significantly acording to the ambient temperature of the room. I've seen my MBP idle anywhere from 38C in a cool basement to 62C in a warm, second-story bedroom

Isn't that a bit weird? I mean your bedroom couldn't possibly have been 62C. Maybe a few degrees more is ok, but 20? That seems like it's a bit much.
 
I to just received a perfect MBP today and I'm glad sense it's my first Mac, the forums are a really scary place to look before getting a computer but I'm glad I have it now. IT'S SUPER FAST.:D

I know, it is sorta weird, but it is the trend I've noticed. My idle temps fluctuate that much depending on my locale. of course, I have to be there for a good couple hours, but I mean, it is quite plausible. My basement is about 19C and the second floor is about 26-27C in the summer...

Hmm...that changes things. I thought you meant that the temp. was at that level after only few minutes of idle sitting. I guess I can see how the basement would allow the computer to cool faster...though I have to ask: were you using the same apps?
 
Do you know if you can control who manufactures the screen? (Like is it possible to pick out a Samsung from an LG screen at the Apple store?)

To find the screen manufacturer, open up system preferences and go to Display.. Then go to the Color tab, select the Color LCD profile, and then click on Open Profile.. The information is displayed on line 13.. 9C67 is LG.. 9C68 is Samsung

glad for you cuz apparently LGs have less problem...
not always true since i have the samsung one and it is PERFECT !!
no dead or stuck pixels, no yellowish problem, nothing !

I think either way, it's a small percentage of screens that have MAJOR problems. Thanks for the tip though:)

I checked temps with only the same dashboard widgets running, nothing else:)
 
Congrats on the new MBP, you will love it sooo much and will never go back to the windows side again.

yup. Once You Go Mac, You Neve Come Back.

OH BTW get yourself a couple good apps: (too long to lin them so google them)
1.Quicksilver by BlackTree (a must)
2.Growl
3.iAlertu (nvm the 9.95, its free, well donationware)
4.adium (in replacement of msn/aim/yahoo)
5.VLC and FLip4mac (for videos)
6.Neo Office (like office but better, free, and NOT BY MICROSOFT)
7.WIDGETS!!!! tons of them.

[people comment on those so he can have many opinions]

pretty sure it's AU Optronics B154PW01 V0. apparently it's grainy and has several issues. hope yours is okay

EDIT: I just found this: Past Forum.

Try this when you're sitting in your room: move your mbp around from time to time so that it has a new surface to cool down with. But seriously...62C for just Dashboard...that's way too hot.

you're right. i run saf, mail, adium, itunes and ical and i'm at 51C
