Peter Griffin is burned into my iMac Screen

Um, okay, little concerned here

I think by having the front row on overnight with the screen saver setting off has caused the preview of my family guy episode to be burned into the left side of my screen...

WHAT?! do you ask.....i noticed some white lines on grey webpages while browsing in leopard....at first i thought it was dust and tried to wipe it away, but when i noticed that these white lines arent wiping away and are constant over all material on the screen that it was an issue with the screen and not just dirt/condensation

HERES WHEN I NOTICED THAT IT WAS PETER GRIFFIN.....the white lines looked very suspicious, in that they were arranged in a peculiar way that didnt look random.....upon further probing (about a half hour of staring) I realized that I was seeing an outline of peter's collar and glasses and broad shoulders.......

now what the heck do i do...i noticed this right after exiting front row and I am hoping that the outlines will fade away

I THOUGHT SCREEN SAVERS WERE SOMETHING OF THE CRT OLD 90'S SCREENS!.....do i really need it to randomize the image on the screen so images dont get burned into it?!?

what the hell, should i be concerned?

ps, just checked now and its still there...:mad::eek:
 
How old is your iMac?
When you say "I just checked and its still there" that mean its not always noticeable?

My screen has a few spots on the LED lights shining through brighter which results in a bright blotch in a couple places. I wonder if yours is similar. I brought mine to the Apple store (I have PB G4 17") and they said my warranty covers it no problem.

Perhaps if you left your Mac on an all white screen overnight it would bleach out the noticeable image. I know that's not a solution you'd want to hear since it means you are now burning in an image all over.

Oooo! Invert the Peter Griffin image and leave that on, as it would be the exact opposite of what was burned in, it would not burn in the same pixels you find noticeable, but everything else instead.

I have brand new iMac (well not brand new, its the most recent gen) 24"'er

the fact that you asked me that question scares the poop out of me,

peter is noticeable on grey and sort've grey backgrounds...it looks like a white outline...

it sortve looks like it may be fading away but i wont jump to conclusions cuz i am quite scared, lol

i have since turned on the screen saver function in front row so this does not happen again, (even if it shouldnt have happened in the first place):mad:
 
Nothing personal, but I'm always skeptical of claims I hear on the net. Can you take a photo of the screen showing the problem and post it here?

There is something wrong with this post.

Was this a Powerbook G4 or a Macbook Pro? Is the issue problems with your LCD screen or your backlight? Because PB G4's don't have LED backlights for their screens. Only the last generation of MacBook Pros use LEDs, all previous laptops used a tube light for the back light.

Would you want your screen saver coming up while you're trying to watch something? If anything what happened is the desired behavior. I suppose you could have the screen saver come up still if the pause function is enabled, but I can't help but feel the user is partially responsible for leaving it running to begin with. I'm sure if you left a DVD player and LCD TV in the same state the same thing would happen.

If I'm going to be gone for more than a half hour I shut off my monitor even if I'm leaving the computer running. But then I have a CRT monitor so I'm partially doing it to save electricity and lower heat output.

It isn't a desired behavior. Leopard should recognize it's in movie mode and paused and should take actions to prevent harm.

Nicer DVD players will actually put up a primitive screen saver type deal. Nice TVs will automatically protect themselves when there has been the same image on the screen for more than XX time.

This honestly take all of about 20 lines of code to execute.

The solution is to set your screen saver to a slide show of pure white images over night. Set brightness to low, but not off. Let it run overnight. Turn the computer off for a couple hours after the overnight.
 
It is not burn-in and it will go away.

Being LED or CFL backlit has no bearing on this. It's polarization or bias of the liquid crystal.

It DOES happen - happened to my LCD at work. (though that image was static for a VERY long time)

Over time it will go away. Some of those seizure-inducing "stuck pixel" savers will actually help this (though I don't think they work for stuck pixels - funny, eh?)

I would not sweat it, as it's temporary. Now if you had a CRT, Plasma or OLED display - you could be boned...
 
Cinema Displays sometimes exhibit this problem and Apple recommends running a program that I believe is built into Macs that displays random colors/images on the screen and eliminates this "burn in." You might want to look into that.
 
That is what those "Stuck Pixel" / Seizure software do. Ultra fast, Random brilliant colors.

Makes me think of Pokemon for some reason...

Alas, i have been trying to find it for a few hours now and I think peter has gone away.....i was super scared though, lol the only issues i have had with my mac is a defective mighty mouse...

oooh peter griffin, get off my computer and into my dreams...

They do fix stuck pixels - I fixed one on my second monitor with a flashing colours video. It took quite a few hours though - I had to leave it on over night. No complaints though, as that's preferable to having a stuck red pixel forever more!

I missed a coma...
My screen has a few spots on the LED, lights shining through brighter which results in a bright blotch in a couple places.
 
This often happens at our workplace with our LCD screens. We have the "Ctrl-Alt-Del" screens that appear on the screens any time anyone isn't logged in. When left on too long, it can burn a very apparent image in the screen. After use, it will disappear over a few days.

I wouldn't be too concerned.
 
It sounds like you have a temporary problem, and so what better image to have burned into your screen that Peter Griffin. I'd say it sounds like a Christmas present from Quahog
 
I once had a harsh pattern wallpaper on for awhile, I didnt notice it was burning in until openning photoshop and seeing it show through with the grey background. Since I had the wallpaper on for so long it took a week for it to finally fade away.

It happens to all LCD's and the older they get the more sensitive they are, I have to move windows around ever half hour or so to avoid burn in at the top right corner since my LCD is like 3 years old.
 
Ok, if you do a search you will see I had the exact same problem maybe last week or so. Here is the solution:

Turn off your iMac, leave it off for a few hours or so. When you turn it back on, it will be fine.

Screen Burn In!!!!! Crap!!

I just noticed an obvious greyed out virticle line going more then 3/4 down my 24" iMac Screen. Its on the left side. Then, towards the bottom, i see text burn in from a few icons!! and 2 borders that were icons on the right. only the LINE is obvious but when you boot up and have that solid lightblue screen, i see the burn in's alot more. Now i am concerned. Is this something i can really remedy? I will try the strobing apps that flash colors fast on the screen, and i really am going to use black screen saver now alot more. Is my screen perminently scarred by this burn in? man , bummer..:mad::eek::mad::confused: Ill post photos. soon.
