So what do those people who earn between $30,000 and $75,000 prefer? That's a big segment

This thread is probably going to get ugly fast.

Well, this white, male with multiple graduate degree's and earns significantly more than 75k, prefers Android. So my survey of 1 is more accurate. :D

Survey by jackandsht survey group says:
Android preferred by 100 percent of college educated, white males earning 6 figures.

An interesting part will be watching the numbers as the younger people get older.

The rich and college educated people are going to be heavily weight at the iPhone.

My read of that is iPhone is going to start dropping as those 18-24 year olds start getting older and richer. Also means more of them will have college degrees so it going to change the balance by quite a bit.

I hate when these type of marketing stats are used on a forum just as a "Look "people of color" use Android!" Or "college educated people use iPhones!".

These threads generally are just posted in an attempt to offend people. Unless it was moved to this forum what other purpose does it have? It's talking about the iPhone > Android so why is it in Alternatives?

Someone needs to go out and buy an iPhone. Only then will they be intelligent enough to post in the correct forums.

I know some fairly well off people with Samsungs. It's all a matter personal preference really.

I'm white.

I'm college educated (well, I went to college, about the educated part...)

I'm incredibly rich.

I have an iPhone.

Does that make me a terrific guy?

Not sure of the point of the survey...except to pump up sagging egos...

1. I posted the results of a survey conducted by Pew, not marketing stats.

2. The results don't necessarily show that iPhones or Android phones are superior to any other phone.

3. I did not post them because I wanted to offend anyone.

4. I posted the results in this sub-forum because it is the only sub-forum for the discussion of non-Apple smartphones in comparison to iPhones. The survey compares usage of iPhones and Android phones.

I am of two minds on this.

I agree with cynics, what was the point of posting this thread?

I posted it because it's interesting.

To justify the own purchase.

Not really, it's just interesting.

I don't get this. How does knowing that a certain percentage of people in a demographic prefer buying iPhones or Android phones give me an ego boost?

People need to chillax. This is just a bunch of interesting stats, similar to census numbers or surveys of internet penetration. It's not meant to be an ego boost and is certainly not meant to offend.

This white male college student uses an HTC One.

Might as well drop out and start digging ditches my friend.

I apologize if you weren't trying to offend anyone but the title is like a lead in remark.

College educated and rich do things differently then the way you do them....meaning? See what I mean?

You also have to admit "people of color" is an edgy thing to say. As a white person I feel a shamed to here that.

The reason I assumed it was for marketing was because that's what these polls are generally used for. Unless you are just a racist why else do you want to know what smartphones a black man uses? Now for marketing that's very valuable information as there are products that are made for certain demographics.

I'm an iPhone user. And that fact that things in that made me feel good (or laugh mostly) means others will be offended IMO. Maybe not, who knows. I can agree this kind of information is interesting (if true) but its an off topic or no topic for me personally.

The rich and college educated are smart enough to know what device to buy that suits them and aren't insecure enough to go around posting useless polls on the alternatives to ios sub forum on Macrumors.

I apologize if the title offended. As the son of non-college educated parents who don't make more than $75,000 per year, I can categorically say that I don't think college-educated or rich people are superior to anyone else.

I'm not sure how to respond to the "Unless you are just a racist why else do you want to know what smartphones a black man uses?" ccomment. As a curious person, I am curious to know how many people in certain demographics use each type of smartphones. I don't think that makes me racist, ageist, sexist or elitist. As an example, I'm also curious to know how many college graduates found jobs after graduation last year; that doesn't make me anti-college graduates.

What kind of conversation were you hoping to stimulate with these "interesting stats?"

A conversation with posts like this (from earlier in this thread):

Methods of Study from next page on OP link.

So who or what decides the margin of error? Cause I think it's much higher than 2%.

In my circle people who started with the iphone are staying with the iphone and people who don't know how to use technology that well are picking up the iphone for their first phone unless they have children who use Android.

People switching to the Iphone from Android tend to want to go back to Android.

Windows/BB is not on anyone radar.

Both are great platforms and I think people just tend to stick with what they know.

How about a poll about how many Americans on government welfare programs who own a smartphone and their average monthly bill?

Now that would be an interesting poll about how the poor spend their money.

No, it would be a fairly short report and it doesn't take a lot of imagination to figure it out

1. Rent
2. Food
3. Gas (assuming the have a car) or bus/train fare
4. Clothing and other perishables (soap, toothpaste,)
5. A TV and a computer/tablet/laptop/console

The rest of what little money goes towards entertainment or other occasional expenses. Doctor's visits, gifts, girls'/boys' nights out, etc.

Poor folks can afford low-mid tier smartphones and they can get by without massive data plans by using wifi for most of their browsing.

It would be interesting if you ever were poor, and realized the poor could get a smartphone and use it as a phone (and not spend money on a landline), as a watch, as a calendar and planner, use it to register for school, use it to look for work, keep their important data on for dealing with social services, health care, and other institutions, use the camera to deal with shifty landlords who don't keep housing up to spec, help price-check when at a store instead of having to take a bus all over the city to save two dollars, use it for security and calling the cops (because the poor are more vulnerable to assault and other forms of crime, I'm sure you knew this), and on and on and on.

Or you could just put "I dump on the poor and don't think critically about anything ever" in your signature, that would work too. Did you know people on social assistance aren't forced to live as efficiently as possible? Perhaps you could agitate for caloric monitoring of their food consumption, maybe round them up and put them somewhere they could be tracked 24/7.

Why don't you worry about yourself and ****? That's something I'll advise.

Or are you one of those "Hard working concerned American" types.

I have low income family members, they usually use Prepaid service combined with a Android phone like the S3.

Poor people want the nicest things they can afford, most have the S3.

honestly this poll should have apple running a little scared.

Reason for it is this means they are in danger in the future as their user group is on the older side. The younger group will move into that older range as time goes on and people do not tend to switch platforms as often.
