I had an LG Shine along with two of my best friends at the time. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I actually loved that phone.

Heading into 2009 I had the Nokia 6500 slide. Upgraded later in the year to a HTC Hero. Held out for the much delayed white iPhone 4 until April 2011 and have been with iOS ever since

2007- samsung voyager the first phone ever dubbed the iphone killer and my first cellphone.

I originally wanted the iphone but at the time I thought they were 500 dollars outright. I had no idea it was 200 with a contract just like every other smartphone at that time. I found out that info well over the 30 days to return the voyager. I had to wait 2 years to get my first iphone which was the 4.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t like the first iPhone at the time and felt there were better options available. As the iPhone got better I became more interested. You could also only get it on O2 and it wasn’t subsidised the way it was in America where I am. It was hideously overpriced for what it was.

So if the 3GS came out in 2009, that's what I was using. I used iPhones ever since the original.

Once 2012 got here, not only did I continue buying each years iPhones, I also started buying Android phones.

This year, I'm using a few XS Max 512GB phones plus a S9+ and a Note 9.

I actually didn’t know a lot about the first iPhone. I remember in 2008 when I wanted to upgrade one of my lines which was on T- mobile back then. I said I wanted a phone that I could listen to music on and watch videos I’d purchased on iTunes. Someone advised me to get a blackberry so I ended up with the blackberry pearl. I hated the thing. The only thing I liked about it was that I could get my emails on it without going on my computer.

In 2009 my upgrade with O2 came round. I still wanted a phone that I could listen to my music on and watch YouTube videos on, my own ripped videos and videos that I’d bought from iTunes. . I’d heard about the iPhone but I thought it must be very expensive. I was going to get the LG Arena and then O2 actually contacted me and offered me the iPhone 3G and the price was reasonable to that’s how I ended up with my first iPhone. After that I got the iPhone 4 and it was because my 4 was stolen that I ended up dabbling in android in 2012 but was back with the iPhone in 2014 and I’ve been with an iPhone ever since.

2009? iPhone 3GS I think, the 16GB one I think, one contract with O2 who had the UK exclusivity. I came from a Nokia N95 slider phone which I really liked as it had a good camera and had wifi built in (a reasonable rarity back then) and supported 3.5G.

At this time in 2009 I was still using my iPhone 2G (which I still have and still works, btw), but I got the 3GS when it launched later in the year. Now using a 7 that I got new in early 2017.

I had a iphone 3g back then. Thinking about where we were three years ago. Ride sharing wasn’t popular. Waze wasn’t around yet. Instagram wasn’t popular. I hadn’t heard about dating apps. You didn’t see stores with staff walking around with iPads. Amazing march in technology.

Damn, wish I was rich lol

Thing was a hunk of junk lol. I didn’t get a good touchscreen smartphone until I got the GS3.

I didn’t miss the days of the G1.
My husband had the G1 at the same time I had the iPhone 3G. My iPhone was much better even he thought that. He got an iPhone 4 after that and he liked it. He's switched to Samsung now though and I can't convince him to switch back.

It wasn't until way in later part of 2009, but the iPhone 3GS was my first iPhone/smartphone 10 years ago. I decided to jump into the iPhone bandwagon because Apple at that time just didn't want to put a camera on the iPod Touch (been using iPod Touch since the first gen).

So what did you use 10 years ago?

Cool idea for a thread OP!

Let's see. Jan 2009...I was using a blackberry I think. Either that or a RAZR.

Oh wow!

My first iPhone was an iPhone 4 the following year.

I liked apple back then but was not a user because I felt their products were too overpriced! Now i own iPhone, iPad, MacBook and have spent god knows how much in the past decade over multiple iterations haha. Crazy

Palm Treo 800w running Windows mobile. Never a huge fan. Bought an iPhone 4 in 2010. Haven’t looked back.

Was using my iPhone 3G 16gb I got on contract, I paid £169 up front and £29 a month for 18 months total cost with contract £691, I can't remember how much data, minutes and texts I got with that package. I remember thinking that was a lot of money, back then dumb phones were not that expensive on contract and the iPhone was a much bigger expense than a flip phone, but it seems a good deal now, that was the large storage size too, you had the 8gb and the 16gb versions! So the equivalent of the XS max 512 ;)
Using at the moment the iphone 7 128gb.

Kyocera flip phone to iPhone X
Or Palm Pre at some point in 2009 (still love that phone)
