This rider, I suspect, had no idea of my existence as I sat on the summit of the Barlangi Rock, having camped here overnight. This is a very remote area, so seeing a rider, let alone a lone rider, was unusual.
Barlangi Rock has a long history, going back some two billion years when a meteorite slammed into what is now outback Western Australia. The impact left a 70-kilometre-wide scar on the land known as the Yarrabubba impact crater. Sadly, the crater is no longer visible.
Circling Mt Frankland on the Caldyanup Trail via the Soho Lookout. This trail loops around the granite bulk of Mount Frankland through the karri forest with views beyond.
From the top of Mount Frankland, you have 360-degree views of the Walpole Wilderness.
Dr J Wilson named Mount Frankland after climbing Mount Lindesay during his explorations north and west of Albany in 1829. He named Mount Frankland after the then Surveyor-General of Tasmania. The Aboriginal name for Mount Frankland is Caldyanup.
Taken on December 11, 2018, whilst on a south coast of Western Australia road trip with my youngest son.
While not evident as composed out the table with telephoto lens, this is the view from our table in the restaurant. Sadly, the restaurant burned a year ago as couldn't get fire trucks up to the 10000' elevation accessible by ski cable car or hiking. The restaurant is currently being rebuilt with construction a distraction, but other activities are supported.
