spyder 3 isnt really good for retina imac..imac 2015 retina uses GBLED...i do calibrate with xrite 1i display pro which is supporting the GB LED....
PS. the imac 2015 default factory calibration is pretty goo imo...

I also tried to calibrate my iMac 27" 2017 with the Datacolor Spyder4 Elite and it did not give me very good colors. I tried to guess different settings prior to the calibration process and it gave me a better icc profile, at least for my eyes. I wonder which should be the correct values I should select prior the calibration process (gamut, white point, temp... etc), but as I said I'm still guessing because couldn't find that information in any other page or forum. If you know what are the correct values to select I will really appreciate it. In the meantime I ordered Spyder5 Elite hopping that it will give me the icc that nails the calibration for my monitor.
 
well, here are my setting using xrite
from my own experience, turn off any monitor autoadjustments and brightness based on ambient

Great, really appreciate it. I see that this interface is different from Datacolor (obviously) and I can not select some of the things your app allows you to select. Do you believe you can share the .icc profile that you got? I just want to compare :)
