I got pretty lucky on my setup, as I only had to unlock the horizontal pan on my tripod to keep things in frame. I paired my E-M1.3 to my iPad with the OI Share app, so I could show the family a live view with no risks of eye damage. Here's another from eclipse day-this was me testing things ahead of time and is the full sun. It's still interesting, I think, to see the sunspots and other details.
D5, 300mm f/2.8 w/2x. This was handheld, lens leaning against a light post. I really regret not having at least a monopod-my arms were pretty well jello by the end of the eclipse holding this rig(a bit lighter when I switched to the D850, but not by much) and especially holding it nearly vertical.
I experimented a lot too with VR on and off since it can sometimes do crazy things with support and also at higher shutter speeds. Ultimately I left it on, as I couldn't see any difference and figured it couldn't hurt. This was a good reminder to me too of how obnoxiously loud Nikon's first gen VR is(it's not just this lens-I notice it on my 70-200 f/2.8 VRI and a few other lenses).

A photo from eclipse day. Hand-held with no IBIS and nothing to prop my camera on 😵💫 as we were running away from clouds lol
Drove 20 hours from LA to Texas to see it, so sooo glad we were able to. It was a really special trip
First off, amazing photo!!Lovely stacking job!! Was this via your camera“fixed” on tripod and you simply stacked, or it’s a composite with sun/moon and you placed them apart as shown? What’s the time gap between images?
I’ve done this for lunar eclipse back in 2015, fixed on tripod and just stacked.
In my memory slightly over 3min 30 sec for each image.
