I've lived here for almost 40 years and this is only the second scorpion I've ever seen. In unrelated news, I've seen that many tarantulas in the wild since I've been here.

But yeah, they say you should always check your shoes... but I wear flip-flops most of the time, so there's that, too. :D

Here in the UK our wildlife likes us. :) apart from badgers. Badges are mean.

We stand more risk of our kids hiding lego bricks in our shoes than finding a venomous creature hiding in there...

Beautiful lighting.

I loved the way the background of the woods made for a shot that looked like I'd used a Graduated filter.
Comments always welcome.

These are really great shots AFB.

Thanks Ken. Glad your not bored of them yet.
I'd take a badger over a fix or weasel.
Grape left in your shoe is also unpleasant.

Man versus nature

Always amazes me that some people will go to significant effort to trash a beauty spot like this. Took a bit of effort to get the shopping trolley to this spot. Comments always appreciated.

I can't believe people either as to what some of them seem as acceptable behaviour. Morons!

I like this picture. It is a nice arrangement of a natural beauty next to ugliness. Just like my wedding photos! Me being the latter ha ha ha...

Actually that doesnt work on scorpions does it?

Wait, what? They can't be killed with conventional weapons? Do I need some kind of magical amulet? Where do I buy one of those from? YOU NEED TO TELL ME!

Back to some nature stuff. Comments always appreciated.

You're smashing it with these owl shots AFB. I like this one a lot.

I agree, but in fairness that trolley is what makes this shot interesting / different.

Definitely.

Thanks Gents. Totally agree that the trolley makes the shot but unlikely to have been dumped there for artistic motives...then again is graffiti art or vandalism? (rhetorical question).

I've a couple more which I think have nice play of light - let you guys judge that though.

At least the shopping trolly adds a sense of scale! Mrs AFB wants to know if you removed it?

Good point. I cleaned-up a few plastic bottles and assorted trash but couldn't reach the trolley - the pool at the base of the waterfall is over knee-deep and above the top of my wellies - didn't want to go barefoot since there was a bit of broken glass around. Wimp, I know.

These owl pics are great AFB. Great to see your stuff in greater numbers of late.

Thanks. Just all from the same day though! Don't get out too often at the moment.
Yes litter throwing really gets me cross. Why do it? Not worth getting cut by glass or worse though. Especially if you have a bit of a hike to get there.

Thanks MacRy. Here's another.

Nope. They have tried freezing them in ice too. FOR THREE WEEKS... And when they thaw out the little buggers are still up for a fight!

Astonishing creatures. I remember watching a Steve Irwin programme on dangerous critters. He was winding cobras up to get them to spit venom and stuff. However when he was messing with a black scorpion he was bricking it... they are nature's bad ass....

The classic juxtaposition of beauty and beast...

Ooooo hang on, managed to use the J word in context... Savour the moment... There I am done... Thx

Thanks Ken. Who needs 1.2 or 2.8? For a 5.6 £1000 lens, that 200-500 Nikon is a great lump of glass. Certinly giving me shots I wouldn't have got without.

I think we can definitely put that one down to worth the wait... seriously great shots mate. Just superb
