Welcome to Photo of the Day. The POTD thread was started by iGary in May, 2006 and converted to a monthly thread in November 2007 by Arn. POTD is one of the most popular picture groups on MacRumors, often exceeding 500 posts and 20,000 views per month.

Photo of the Day is intended to be a showcase for your best pictures. There is no limit to your gear, just your imagination. P&S and film cameras are welcome along with DSLRs. There are no themes like the Weekly Contest, and no winners (or losers) either.

Policies

*One Photo per Day - Don't post more than one photo each day.

*Multi-Quote - To comment on several photos, click the "+ (Multi-Quote) button. This puts all your comments in one post. Multi-Quoting is required on all of the MacRumors forums.

*SFW (Safe for Work) only - This is a site - wide rule. If you wouldn't show it in a public place, then it's NSFW (not safe for work). Think before you post.

*Describe your photo - Tell what it is and where you took it. If you know the EXIF data of a photo, include it. The following EXIF fields are recommended: Camera, ISO, Focal Length, Shutter/Aperture and Lens.

Note: Anyone may start the Photo of the Day thread on the first of the month GMT. Please copy a quote of this post to maintain all the formatting.

** To see all of our past POTD threads (up to July 2013) please see the sticky thread here**

The Rock Race
A quirky image of what appears to be rocks having a race. A stiff breeze during the day left these mini dunes behind the small stones, giving the feeling of motion. This image probably won't make it to my website, but thought I'd share it. It was a pain to set up and shoot , as I had to find an untouched spot with no footprints whilst getting a half decent composition in the post sunset glow and impending blue hour. Then there was shooting with an inverted tripod column, upside down camera inches from the sand - thankfully the tilty-flippy screen proved to be very valuable. To top it all off, there were clouds of famous Scottish midges eating me alive as the wind had dropped that evening. "Smidge" midge repellant, as good as it is, could only do so much. I've now invested in a head net, so I can look even more of a dafty when out taking photos. Despite all that, I kinda like it though, especially those Fuji colours :)

Fuji X-T2 with XF 16-55mm f2.8 lens with no filters for once.

Great story and great shot. Loving the wind dunes.

Mine for today...
I tried focus stacking for this image, i took 8 shots and blended them in ps. I have done several different flowers and after many failed attempts this is about as good as i can get it.

I've been MIA for a bit now, there's been a heck of a lot going on here for me just recently, part of which resulted in the following. The launch for this exhibition is tomorrow afternoon, but everything's up and ready for it already.

Congratulations! Are all the images yours, or are some from your group? Sorry if you mentioned this elsewhere.

Thanks Molly. There will be an exhibition for the participants in October, as a part of Mental Health Week! These are a retrospective of some images from the last few years of mine, all being sold to raise funds for the Mindful Photography groups to be able to update some more equipment and to gain entry into a few Zoos, pay for transport, etc...

One image is sold already, and the event doesn't start till tomorrow!

Looks great! :D
Thanks Mark. There's definitely nothing like seeing a collection of your works hanging together.

Yeah, there is nothing quite like it! A great experience - once it's all finalised and up on the wall anyway! :D Good luck, I'm sure there will be more sales.

Nice. Did you use focus rails or just move your focus point?

I'd say more fortunately than unfortunate that gators weren't present! One beast you don't wanna mess with!
Wondering how this name is pronounced... o_O

Cute little things:

I see you 2
by another scotsman, on Flickr

This one was about 5' long I'd guess. A baby and far enough away...

I'm no expert but it's pronounced phonetically as in fah-kah-hat-chee as far as I know.

Been away for a while. Just getting back in the photo mood. To kick that off I took a class this summer called "Splash." It is all about fluids - water drops, thrown water, dunks, balloon pops, crashes, etc.

Good to see you back Laird!

Thanks :)

I'm ready to disappear again. ;) Adding A/C to my cargo trailer and prepping for Burning Man again. This year I might be out there for two weeks. In any case I'm off work starting on the 17th. :D

Nicely done.
Thanks. That was the only shot I got with the bit below the water line. I need to experiment more and have some ideas to try. Shooting in a fish tank let me get the above and below action.

I'm glad you added the "once it's all finalised" bit there!

Now, I've got my next exhibition to still source a few images for! It commences in the middle of September, so I have a bit of time yet, but I still need heaps of editing time. For this one I'm printing at A2 size and can't possibly afford to get 10 images framed at that size, so I'm just going to use small bull-dog clips to hold the prints to backing boards, printed with a fairly sizeable white border, keeping it as cheap as I can. It's important that this next one step it up a level, especially with becoming a finalist for a pretty prestigious arts award here as a part of this current exhibition.

Congratulations! But why did they hang them all wonky! :D

Hope the sales go well! They should do.
It's an optical delusion! When looked at from front on, they are all square and true, but, due to a lack of hanging hooks, I couldn't hang them with 2 hooks each, so they are all at various facings in relation to being parallel to the wall behind them!

Nicely framed - hope all goes well.
Thanks! It looks like it should.

Ok..so I just posted this in the July thread. So now I am posting this here. After all, it is August .:)

Rice Paper butterfly. There was all sorts of mixed lighting, so I converted it to back and white. I like how it turned out. Used Silver Efex Pro 2. Lots to learn with this program.

I'm loving this above and below glimpse you are exploring! Wonderful definition, dimension, colour and light to this one.
