"for another hundred centuries or so"Arctic Circle sign at mile 115 on the Dalton Highway, taken in the month of January.
Trivia: The Arctic Circle is slowly drifting northwards at about 49ft (15m) every year. This is because the Earth's axial tilt is currently decreasing, which is part of a natural 40,000-year cycle caused by tidal forces from the moon's orbit. The tilt fluctuates within a margin of 2° over this period, which in turn affects the Arctic Circle's latitude. As the tilt continues to decrease, the Arctic Circle will continue to move north for another hundred centuries or so, until it reaches approximately 68° North. At that pint, it will stop and begin moving south again, causing the Arctic to expand once more. So, this sign is sort of at the Arctic Circle.

I remember calling them Jumping CactusOuch! Ouch...ouch...ouch
While the plants are known, really had to watch out for the little balls of thorns seen on the ground for future plants that the wind relocates along the trail.
